Will you ask a person's name if you have forgotten it?

We bumped into someone in the hospital and my companion started conversing with her about people they both knew. So I had the impression that my companion really knew who she was talking to. When the other lady had left my companion told me that she could not introduce the other lady to me because she can't remember her name. Has this ever happened to you--remember a face but forget a name. This happened to me a number of times already and I would apologetically ask for the person's name while admitting that I am a bit forgetful. How about you, will you be too ashamed to ask for a person's name in case you have forgotten it?

I have got into a situation like that and have felt pretty stupid. With a sheepish grin and apologising to that that person i asked them to give me thier name again.

Haha...I think that it is better to ask again than to keep on wondering about the person's name.

If I meet an unkown person, I firstly ask for her/his name. Sometimes I forget due to other matters. As u said, I have also asked few people their names again as I have forgotten it.

Nice to know that someone here would react like me when faced with a similar funny and embarrassing situation. Thanks for responding.

most of the time i don't ask for names because i'll be forgetting it anyway. hahaha.. i have a bad memory when it comes to names, i can remember faces but barely with names and sometimes i no longer can recall where we'd met as well. i feel you, i'm a certified forgetful person.
