Our new President has been quoted as saying "Words Matter" and on this I can agree.
This is why I oppose Mandatory Volunteer service. The words "mandatory" and "voluntary" are direct opposites. To use them together is an oxymoron. Voluntary means it is at the individual's option to CHOOSE to do something. Mandatory means it is compulsory, required and that you do not have a CHOICE in doing it, you are forced to do it, it is required that you do it.
Mandatory is not synonymous with Voluntary, they are polar opposites, they are antonyms of each other. If you don't beleive me, go check a dictionary or Google the definitions of both words.
There is no such thing as mandatory volunteering; you either volunteer of your own free will, meaning it is VOLUNTARY, or you are forced and required to do something because it is MANDATORY. Why is that so hard for some of you to understand?

Definately an oxymoron! Can't be volunteer work if you get your bum chewed out for not showing up. Might as well call it what it is "work". Thanks for sharing.

Thanks for responding! And if the mandatory volunteering is not paid, then you can't even call it work, it would be called slavery, right?

Heh, yes, unless you're a teacher lol. I can recall having to do lots of "mandatory volunteer" work sitting at football games, etc. Got to love it, right? Namaste-Anora
