Placing Banners in Profile/Sortie Area

I see a lot of people have all kinds of banners in the profile on the side where the activity is located. How do you do that? I can't figure it out. Also I get greetings from people on my same profile page but I don't know how to send them to people. Can anyone help?

I don't know how to do any of this, but want to so I will await for the responses to come in. There are so many smart people on mylot I'm sure some will answer up.
