Zippy, my white cat, has now started ripping the back of his neck open. He sleeps for days while the wound heals, then wakes up and starts scratching the scabs off and makes it bleed all over again. He doesnt have fleas and there is no sign of skin infection. Has anyone come across this before, my vet doesnt know what it is either and has suggested that I use peroxide in water (agua oxyginada in spain, available in supermarkets, very cheap) to keep it clean. Any ideas?

white cats tend to have auto-immune problems.i had one that did the same thing,
she was given an anti-itch spray, and the problem stopped immedietly.
try this for him (not a referal link)

Hi scarlet, sorry for the long delay in responding, I had my internet connection cut off for none payment but (for the moment) am back online.
He now has just a bald patch, all of the scabs have gone and the hair seems to be growing back. Im glad you responded, at least I know hes not the only cat in town that scratches himself to bits. Thanks friend

It could be that the wounds healing are itching. It's like with human skin and how the scabs will start itching and the first thing we do is scratch. Another thing that could be causing it is food allergies. You would think that the guys whole body would itch, but sometimes it is in just one area. I would suggest a "lamp shade" the things you put around their necks until the wound heals completely. Also you could use a cut off sock (the ribbing part) as a bandage around the neck. Since there is no sign of infection, peroxide really won't do too much.
One of the neighborhood cats has a similar problem, he has a spot behind one ear that he continually scratches. He'll let it heal and then go at it again. It could be out of boredom or it might just be one of those areas that itch (I have one on my back. You touch that spot and I can scratch for days.) If you can get Aloe Vera use that. It will control the itching and should help the healing of the area. (that just crossed my mind...I'm a bit slow at times.) Since it's the back of his neck he can't reach it and maybe he won't scratch the daylights out of it.
