Some would say that $30+ Million a year for sitting around talking is outrageous... But why is it that this 1 man is able to make that kind of money while his closest competitors don't gross anywhere near what he nets? The answer is a great lesson in capitalism vs. every other system. So how does someone who works for other people make so much? By bringing in much, much, much more to the people signing his paycheck. Rush Limbaugh may be the face (and voice) of the Excellence in Broadcasting (EIB) network, but he isn't self employed. What he makes in pay and benefits is merely a percentage of what his show brings in in advertising, appearances, book sales and other promotions. So how does a 15 hour a week show bring in so much money that his employers are willing to shell out what amounts to $48,717.95/hr of on-air time? Is it some vast right-wing conspiracy of benefactors who are willing to take it in the wallet for the team? Not hardly! You see, every company who advertises knows one thing for sure... 30 seconds x a few spots per show x 5 show per week = Huge increases in sales. Premier Broadcasting (The Clearchannel company that is the latest of a line of Limbaugh's employers) knows they have a gold mine in Rush Limbaugh, so they are willing to pay for the privilege of carrying his name. I don't care who you are, who your parents are, what side of the tracks you come from, or what career you choose. If you could generate the income Rush does for his employer, as well as all the radio stations that carry the show, you would be making the same income... or more. It is no secret, and no other economic system works as well for the largest number of people.
