Why are people more focused on negativity rather then postivity?

Every day, when the news is on or when talking to other people always the first things I hear, or read. Some people died, the snow was bad, I am grumpy, I didn't sleep last night. I was wondering why as a group most people focus so much more on the negative aspects of life rather then the positive. There are a few positive people I know, they always seem so much happier then everyone else, why can't we all be like that?

The reason that so many people are focused on 'negative' aspects... what they DON'T want... is because they have not learned that their thoughts - where they direct their attention, what they are focused on - is what creates their experience. They say "But this is reality! How can I feel good when children are starving, the economy is bad, when at any moment some disease can take over my body and kill me, or some other 'evil' thing can assert itself in my experience and harm me, etc., etc., etc. Further, if you don't put a sad and worried face on for these declarations of doom and gloom, you are accused of 'not facing reality' of 'sticking your head in the sand', you are given the dread label of 'selfish' (as though it were a curse rather than an integral part of your personal navigational system), and are perceived as a threat to the status quo. Fortunately one's individual happiness does not depend on everybody else being happy too... if that was the case then life would indeed be one miserable experience! Granted it would be wonderful if nobody out there was suffering and everybody was living happily ever after, but this is a universe full of diversity... there is something of everything and there is nothing that 'ought not to be'. And in spite of any appearance to the contrary, we all create our own reality with the power of our ability to deliberately and specifically focus. 'Ask and it is given' is not just wishful thinking, it is the vibrational equivalent of 'That which is like unto itself is drawn', and that is the law of creation! And what are you doing with this discussion but focusing on the negative?!? But please don't beat up on yourself up for it... that is just more negativity. Knowing what you don't want is one of the best ways to more clearly identify what you do want, and eternity surely offers ample opportunity to experiment and explore... and to my way of thinking that's what these 'negative' people are doing. Who am I to say that their actions are inappropriate?? I am not experiencing life from their perspective and don't know the whole story... maybe where they are is an improvement on where they were! Personally, I prefer to see everyone as growing and learning at their own pace. Not that it hurts to set an inspiring example, and that is really all you can do.

And here I thought I was getting everyone to realize that they should be more positive. Do not worry I won't beat up on myself about it. It is depressing doing that so I stopped. I know that we all have the power to change our lives. In what ever way we are more focused on.

I do realize that you were encouraging "boys and girls come out to play, the moon doth shine as bright as day, leave your sorrows and leave your sleep and join your playfellows in the street, come with a whoop, or come with a call, come with a goodwill or not at all..." (Lyrics from 'Ducks on a Pond', Robin Williamson - The Incredible String Band). It's just that I lean to long-winded pedantic lectures, and take advantage of (and relish) every opportunity to engage in them.

I heard just the other day, that stories teach more then lectures. I like your lectures, They sound a lot like stories, I am going to have a "full time job" right away here. Just tonight, I decided that I should go a respond more to people that have been nice enough to comment on my posts, and after a read a few more of yours, I didn't know I had,(I thought MyLot emails them to me, but I guess only some) I have decided to become your MyLot stalker for a time. It is going to take weeks, but I think the value of the lessons will more then pay off. Cheers Buddha.

Hi there my friend. I think the easy answer to this is.... "it's easier to see the downsides to every story"I think that a balance between positive and negative is optimal, perhaps something like "expect the worst but hope for the best", so in this way you can always be happy, and not brake into a depression if things don't go your way. For all the pessimists out there you know what they say.. what goes up must come down, but you should also know that every end is a new beginning so like the 3 amigos said in their show - and i love this as a motto:"Don't cry about sh!t, make it happen! "

For the longest time, whenever any said to me, Waa Waa Waa...What ever it was, I would tell them always, it could be worse...More often or not the response was Oh yea, How Chysom. Then I would proceed to tell them, how it could be worse, usually 3 or 4 examples each worse then the last. Hope for the best, but be prepared for the worse, was also a motto of mine for a time. Lately though, I am trying the See the bright side of everything style, and it is a much different outlook on life that I am enjoying greatly. Thank you for your response. Cheers.

I don't think people are very happy any more. The news media is one of the reasons, because they spread bad cheer on a daily basis. Most people don't have enough money to make ends meet, work too hard, and have to give up having any fun because everything costs so much these days. When my kids were little we used to take them to movies. Now it costs so much to take a family to a movie that more people tend to rent them and make popcorn at home. In addition, people are more isolated now. We stay in our homes watching TV and movies, playing video games, or working on our computers. We don't spend nearly enough time out socializing with other people in our society. Lots of people lack close friends and personal relationships. I'm not sure people with positive attitudes are really that much happier than everyone else. They're just better at covering up the way they really feel. There doesn't seem to be much to be happy about any more.

I believe that most, if not all of it, comes from people just being unhappy with themselves.

How can we as a group, help more people to be happy. I am very much not liking all the negativity that I am observing and is being cast at me, I am trying very hard to make more positive, just having a little more trouble then I usually do.

I really can't say why. i can easily say that I'm not one of those people, who focuses on the negative things. I don't like doing that. I much prefer to focus on the positive aspects of my life. It just seems so much brighter to focus on the positive rather the negative aspects.

hmm i agree many people are more focused on negativity than positivity. Me and my dad were actually on about this the other day, as im getting my ear piercings out tomorrow and i was like 'what if this, what if that' and my dad said 'stop being negative and be more positive, then you'll find that it isn't as bad as you think it will be' i actually think its true what he's saying to be honest. I think positivity is much easier to deal with than negativity, simply because when you're thinking positive you are happy and etcetera. But when you're thinking negatively it makes you feel even more scare/nervous/whatever about things.

i wonder this too, and i guess it is just human nature. something programmed in our brains or DNA? lol. i'm not really sure, but positivity is much more easy to deal with than negativity. it gets old and played out, and just completely annoying. as for the news, i guess the reason most news is negative is because, whether we'd like to admit or not, there is a ton of bad in the world, and these things need to be reported. they cause more danger to the society than positive situations do, and the news is how the public is warned of these terrors. however, i will say a couple of my local news stations do honestly portray a lot of positive happenings in my area too. i wish i could say the same for all of them, and hope you get to experience that one day too. it's good to know that my community is not all bad, and that people are actually working to try and make a (positive)difference in the world!
