Do you know someone with autism?

Autism parents plead for understanding.Children with autism can have meltdowns that are misconstrued as bad behavior.Onlookers' glares, blame-casting don't go unnoticed by parents.Try to reassure parents, offer support rather than staring. It must be very difficult to parent an autistic child. I cannot believe how judgmental some people can be. http://www.cnn.com/2009/HEALTH/03/31/irpt.autism/index.html

Yes, I do. I have a nephew who lives next door who just turned 6 who has autism and my first cousin has a daughter with autism. And I know the ins and outs of it since I see him regularly. And people do get the wrong ideas sometimes especially those who don't know about autism. You can try to teach a autistic child right from wrong but it is a lesson that has to be taught everyday cause they forget it. They have to learn the same thing everyday for two months to remember it. I have watched movies on it and read up on it. And your not supposed to punish a child that cannot control themselves at a young age. People think that they should maybe but maybe if they were the ones actually dealing with it they would understand themselves it isn't so easy..it is almost living the same day over and over again for two months before moving onto the nest thing to learn. it is hard. I think that both my sister in law and cousin should get good mom awards because they deal with more stuff the moms who have normal children deal with. And the same goes for ADHD, I have several in my family with that and BI-Polar and it is tough and people should live a day..no a week in their shoes and see how it really is..before judging.

I have a grandosn who is Autistic. My wife and I did a charity walk with my daughter and grandsons for Autism a few years back getting like nearly $500 in pledges. It is a hard task even as a grandparent to deal with the autistic child. I know others here on myLot with autistic children etc. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB!!~

I have three kids- all with special needs. My oldest daughter has ADHD and depression, my youngest daughter has ADD and my son has ADHD, ODD, and Asperger's. I know exactly what you mean about judgemental people. My three kids out in public together is a chore and a recipe for disaster so I don't take all of them out at one time very often. I've been reported to children services twice because of the yelling in my house- the last time the case worker called and told me I reminded her I had 3 kids with ADHD and she said enough said. I am involved witha man that doedn't really understand and no matter how many times I explain that Duncan needs more help and less discipline he tells me I'm just being too easy on him. To be honest with you if I could take care of myself and the kids without my guy I would probably kick him to the curb.

that`s really horrible,i mean, this is a difficult mental illness, hard to cure.not only the parents feel helpless and headache, but the child, the only one who can`t be understood also have a black time to go. autism,i never thought how this could be,but some films show us this.i suppose there must be some certain reasons to cause this strange illness, some family circumstance, some weird people`s effections, perhaps the different society. this is really a special discussion, how would you get this?from some papers or news?
