My brain misinterpreted again

Many times we do not see the same thing the same way. I believe many of us have been shown diagrams or pictures which are seen as different from what others may perceive.
The latest misinterpretation is the user name of a member. When I first saw it I thought the person must be Asian in origin. That was my belief for some time. This belief was shattered when it was made known that this person was here under a different nickname. Only then I saw the real words used in the current nickname.
Have you ever experienced a misinterpretation of what you saw with your eyes? Anything funny or bad that happened due to this misunderstanding?

Lol, yes, I believe I know what you mean. You can always ask to clear the air. I'm often mistaken with regards to the gender of the username. I thought its a boy although its a girl, lol. It happens specially on online conversation coz there's a thin wall that separates all of us - our monitor. We can hardly sense if we're really talking to a real person or an alien, lol. I mean some can really be deceitful, we can't trust our own eyes to see the real thing until we try to ask more and dig out some more information regarding the other person. Unlike in our real daily life, we socialize much easily and more comfortably.

Unfortunately there are things which we should not ask in the open. In order to seek clarification from this person I will have to make a friend request. So far I have responded to only one of this person's discussions. I was not sure whether this person would accept me or not. No harm in asking but if rejected I will be back to square one.
Thank you for your response.

I had experienced such events. I recognize the wrong people. I think he was my friends, after I approach, he was not, he is of others.
I am so ashamed

Yes, even though it hsppens to many people we feel embarassed when it happens to us. Actually most people do not laugh at us over our mistake, but over the way we react. Most probably they have experienced at least one similar incident. In the case of mistaken identity I was once thought to be somebody else by onr girl. The name she used to repeatedly call me with was different. I kept on walking. Luckily she did not come running after me.
Thank you for your response.

I often have that experience although the most recent in my memory was a mistake made by my boyfriend instead of myself. I was reading a Filipino comic book ("Pugad Baboy", the latest book from Pol Medina, Jr.) and each section had a title. The current chapter I was reading was entitled "sugarol" and my boyfriend asked who's "sugar roll"?
I kept of laughing because "sugarol" is a Filipino word that meant "gambler" and my boyfriend read it wrong :P
Thanks for the response on my discussion!

At least you were there to correct him.
My aim of starting the discussion was to make a gentle reminder that we all make the mistake of misunderstanding certain things. Without anyone to point te truth, and without our willingness to accept our failings, an innocent thing can be the cause of a major misunderstanding.
Sometimes I still wonder why for several weeks I did not see the bat in the new Batman logo.
