Well not really but this photo shows the progress of my sweet corn seedlings. They are about 3 inches tall already. I planted maybe 20 but so far just 7 have sprouted up. That's okay too I guess. Do you grow your own sweet corn or buy it from a store or a Farmers Market? HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB!!~

I've grown it in the past but had to fight the squirrels for the ears. I planted from seed straight in the garden last year three times. The corn came up but when about 4-6" tall, something came along and attacked them at ground level, so I gave up.

I planted some off the side along the fence last yeaqr for the squirrels. Hopefully planting sunflowers will keep them from the corn this time around. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB!!~

The only suitable spot near the fence is reserved for scarlet runner beans... It's a schoolyard-type wire fence, so gives them something to climb.

Last year the deer got the corn and my Mom didn't share the pea's so this year growing my own. As for the corn the deer can eat it I don't mind as they need to eat something as long as it is not the cabbage.

If I had my own house and therfore my own garden you bet I would grow my own corn! Anytime we do get corn it is either from a farmers market or from the grocery store when it is in season! Do you by any chance freeze any of your veggies and fruits for the "off season"?

We froze some corn last year was all. We usually eat it all and give a lot to our daughter and neighbors. I will be doing pickles again this year. Some neighbors call me "The Pickle Man" now. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB!!~

I tried growing sweet corn last year, but not too many ears were big enough to eat by the end of the summer. I don't think they got started early enough. I normally buy it from the Farmers Market.

One thing I learned is that corn should not be waterd as much as other veggies. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB!!~

Hmmmmm interesting fact Grandpa Bob! Why is it that they shouldn't be watered all that much?

Thanks for reminding me! I just went and put some peas, beans and corn in my little starter pots. I also got some morning glory and hollyhock seeds that I will put in starter pots later on today. I can't stand up very long and the veggies were all I could do.

Hi GRANDPA BOB, Your sweet corn plants are looking good, I'm sure it will give you good crop but I cannot grow anything as my garden is so small and don't get enough sun so when I want to eat sweet corn I have to buy they form the store. Tamara

I don't grow my own for as you probably already know, my garden isn't really big enough for veg and flowers, so I stick to the flowers and shrubs and somewhere pleasant to sit. I like to go out and pick my own corn from the farms around here, just as I do strawberries and such. It's much more fun and the flavour is always so much better than of those in the supermarkets. It's also cheaper that way. Brightest Blessigns, my friend.

I've a large back yard and an area next to the garage alongside the house for lots of garden beds etc. I am going to have a tomato bed near my red rasberries this year. I'll see if they survive the rabbits opver there as opposed to in back. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB!!~

When we have corn on the cob we just get it from the store. I wish we had a farmers market close by. When my kids were younger and we would go visit my mother we would go pick corn out of the corn fields, they charged us less when we picked our own and we also enjoyed it. We then would take it to her house and my mother would make the best creamed style corn and put it in freezer back for the freezer. When the kids and I would go home she would always load us up with ice chests and food, not just corn but other home grown veggies. Now those things I can almost taste. Guess I will go fix me a bologna sandwich though for lunch since I don't have the fresh things. hahaha
