Will authorities view this as a hate crime?

A hate crimes lawsuit has been filed against the owner of an abortion clinic in Rockford, Illinois.
Wayne Webster's abortion clinic -- located in a community about 90 miles northeast of Chicago -- has gained some notoriety, according to Tom Brechja, president and senior counsel at the Thomas More Society.
"The proprietor of this abortion clinic has been a rather bizarre personality with -- believe it or not -- rubber chickens hanging in the window from nooses," Brechja relates. "He's got religious symbols in the window. They are sacrilegiously defamed." In addition, he says, there is a doll of a nun lying in a coffin with a needle stuck in its heart.
Pro-life sidewalk counselors outside the clinic are now apparently in harm's way -- a situation that has spawned the lawsuit.
Tom Brechja (Thomas More Society)"[Webster] has now a crony who comes from the neighborhood with a pit bulldog on a leash and screams the vilest racist and anti-religious epithets -- even...homophobic language -- against the pro-life people who are there peaceably," the attorney explains.
According to Brechja, the pro-lifers have been shoved and otherwise assaulted -- all recorded on video. "This [video evidence] is explosive stuff," he states in a press release, "but we mustn't cover it up or look the other way. Instead, the best disinfectant is sunlight. Now that this egregious bias has come so glaringly to light, it must be condemned, punished, and suppressed."
In the lawsuit, Brechja is asking for damages and an injunction against that behavior -- behavior he says "is precisely what Illinois has condemned as 'hate crime.'"
Do you think the authorities will view this as a hate crime? Or is it just standard procedure to view pro-life as hatred?

As i understand it, if hate crimes are targeting people of a certain particular group, then I would like to see all abortion clinics charged under the hate crimes law for killing people of a certain particular group: unborn babies. If I went out and killed store clerk when I robbed a store, then i would go to jail for killing someone. People who kill babies by abortion should go to jail for murder in my opinion.

I myself do not believe in abortion, but to each his or her own choice. Also as far as being shoved maybe the person was just trying to get inside the clinic which that person trying to go inside has a right without being harassed. And what has happened to freedom of speech & self expression in our country??? I don't believe in saying bad things to people as far as insults or threats. But someone could also see is as freedom of speech. Minus any threats of physical abuse. Also if I was in harms way I would leave & go home. I understand that they are angry but I also have seen protesters that are also violent.

The part that got me was, "a crony who comes from the neighborhood with a pit bulldog on a leash and screams the vilest racist and anti-religious epithets -- even...homophobic language -- against the pro-life people who are there peaceably," the attorney explains. I don't think this would be tolerated against any other group but pro-life or christian, or perhaps, conservative..

Yes they probably will .
And this feller sounds weird to hav ethis stuff in his clinic.
Most clinic are like a small hospital. as I had my daughter in a clinic.
ANd reall if someone has to have a abortion I would rather them go to a clinic that is clean and sterel.
than in a dark dirty basement to get and illeagle one some can die from something like this.

It sounds to me like that clinic is steeped in hatred--of life, of religion and the world. Harassing the pro-life counselors, I think, is a hate crime in a round about way--they are trying to save lives, God creates life, the pro-infanticide people are trying to hurt the people trying to save the babies so they are indirectly attacking religion.
The people in that clinic surround themselves with hatred. I feel sorry for them.

I know! I can't understand all that hatred! And, imagine, believing there's no basis for questioning the humane-ness of terminating the pre-born!

Hi, deepika201! The best thing that I can tell you is this. If you have a purse you can try keeping small sticky notes. You can write every name down when you meet someone new and old. That is what I will do. You can also try logging the persons name and/or number in your cell phone if you have one. These are a few ways in helping you to remember in keeping up with names.

I am so very sorry about this. I copied and pasted another discussion on your discussion..
This is a hate crime and they should prosecute this person. It is not normal that this can take place, and not have anyone to say anything about it. Something must be done! It can offend someone if they see it.
