Seem this hard time, how many of you keep money in your wallet or Purse? I always keep $20 and 1 debit card and 1 credit card (low credit line as possible) .... I dont really spend as much as I used to, cuz of tough money situation. If I know what I will buy at the store then I just buy what I really need. I know most people will keep more than $100, I do too but that is for emergency thing only. I have to hid it somewhere in my purse. So, how about you? Do you carry a lot of money with you or just enough for today? Do you limit yourself on spending? I do. Any idea on how to save, would be appreciate

I like this discussion. I am not someone who is so keen on carrying cash because I pretty much prefer using the debit for my purchases. I don't believe in having a credit card because I learn lessons from others and don't want to end up cash strap trying to pay debts and bills. Even if I can exercise control, I think in this financial trying times, it's best to stick to a debit card. And perhaps if I carry coins for buying those drinks on vending machines, otherwise, I don't really have cash with me. *touches wood* I hope I don't ever bump into a thief because it really is I don't have any cash with me and he might not believe, LOL.

That's great news but wouldn't it be dangerous for say...(touch wood) should someone find your card and swipe it off too? How does the card knows its owner or how does the procedure works in this way.

i have very few money on my wallet. if i get $20 (thats 1 thousand pesos here) i deposit it in my savings, so i will not be tempted on spending it... i dont have that much savings anyway, those that i depost i use them later on to pay our bills. i have debit card and credit in my wallet, the credit card are for emergency use only, the debit, well, sometimes for grocery... i dont go out that much, like to the malls, so i will not be tempted on spending anything. most of my time are spend at home and online. i have also coins hidden in different places here in my house, that way when i really dont have any money left, i can just go search for them lol... it has been working for me for many years now... those coins really help a lot. i have coins under my clothes in the closet, bookshelves, on top of the fridge... just anywhere. for our foods, i just buy what we really need, i spend less on snacks now, so we can save... times are really hard. sometimes we buy at markets because foods there are cheaper than those sold at supermarkets, like fish, pork, and vegetables.

Interesting, I dont have coins everywhere in the house... I always keep them in one place and when I need them then I know where to find. I know $20 is a little in the us but in different country are different.

I will not keep too much money with me normally. I will put RM50 in my purse as the meal spending for 1 week. When my car out of petrol only i will get another money to fuel up. Since my salary is quite low, I have to be very careful in my spending.

I don't like to take a lot of money with us. Mostly, I take less than 50 Yuan(About $10 ) with me. Because I think when I need buy some thing, I will prepare for it. And I think it's enough for daily use with about $10. Happy mylotting!

If you want to save, follow the ways of the Chinese... The Chinese, even in instances that their income increases, they maintain the same expense. They are not that luxurious. I mean, it is in their values to be thrifty, frugal. Here in the Philippines, the Chinese who were once mere traders and junk shop owners, are now the most wealthy. Two of them even made it to Forbes' list of billionaires. I know its against the rules to mention names here, so just send me a private message if you are curious to know them.

I definitely limit my spending. No way could I just go and by whatever I want, or think I need. Half the things I think I need don't make it to the checkout counter. I usually carry aabout 25 dollars in my purse, with one credit card. I only have one credit card. And I'm happy with this credit card company because if it is stolen, I do not have to pay any of the purchases should someone use my credit card for themselves.

I know what you mean. sometimes, I have a lot of things in my cart but when I come to the check out then I take only a few. I just get what I need not what I want.

i dont carry a lot of money unless if i really need it. usually i bring 300 - 500 pesos plus my debit card (just in case!!!). right now everytime i go to mall or grocery i limit myself to buy anything because its so hard to earn money today.

I always limit what I want to buy cuz sometimes I get something that is not necessary. And I also, separate my account for bill and for saving. and for others. Everything change since economy changed. I hope everything will back to normal soon.

I limit the amount of cash I keep in my purse to around $20 and I learned the hard way. One day I cashed our pay and had over $500 in my purse which is definitely not the norm and I had it stolen while having dinner at MacDonald's with my daughter. I was devastated because we could not afford such a loss and I felt so violated! I advise everyone not to keep too much cash on their person if they can help it! As far as budgeting goes, I divide our money every pay into bill, mortgage, entertainment, food etc and stick to it, there is not usually a lot left over! I added up all our bills for a year and divided the amount by the number of pay days and that is the amount I put aside regardless of whether the bills have come in or not.

I dont carry money on me at all. There are sometimes where I do get a little money and carry it with me, but that may only happen less than five times a year. There are reasons though. First off i spend more money when I carry it on me. I find I save more if I just use my debit card for my purchases. Some how it just helps me monitor my purchases more. Also money once stolen its most cases irreplaceable. I have had money stolen from me too many times to go down that road. With a card you can just report any purchases that weren't authorized by you and they will fix it. Same goes for losing money or cards. So I just find it easier not to carry money.

Yes, I think I should learn about this... but most place, where I live, accept cash only and it is hard not to carry cash at all. Plus, my kids want to buy a little thing around the school then I can't use my card there, right? For others, I might.

I am terrible at keeping cash on me. I always just carry my debit card. I just feel I spend less then and it is easier for me to keep track of my money. There are a few times where i wish i would carry a bit of cash on me that way i don't have to use my debit card for a dollar or two but I never think of it until I am in the store using my debit card for my two dollar bill tab.

I keep some money in my wallet, nearly 100$ and few credit cards too. i also have accounts at stores so i don't need to keep cash there but still i keep some for the emergencies. carrying a lot of money now a days won't be a wise decision. try keeping a record of how much you spend. it will be of great help.
