Please don’t help me…no really sir, that’s ok!

I can’t stress ENOUGH to people! If you’re not my co-worker, then don’t help me push, pull, pick up, ANYTHING related to my job, because ANYTHING could happen. A story if you will…I was aligning a cart with the elevator, wasn’t trying to pull it in, push it in, just lining it up. I was closest to the elevator. A middle aged gentleman saw me, a somewhat tiny girl, I GUESS he assumed I was struggling, so he decided to “help” by coming along and PUSHING the damn cart towards the elevator, practically crushing me in the process. I was lucky enough to jump out of the way, otherwise the cart would have rolled over my foot/myself! I just stared at the guy and said, “SIR! Thanks for the help, but please let me do my job!” His response of course was, “I was only trying to help…” My softer response was, “I understand sir, but YOU are not covered by our Workers’ Compensation Board. And believe me, if there was ever a time I would need help, I would ask my co-worker to tag along with me just in case. We know what to do. Have a nice day!” then I jumped onto the elevator with the cart and just fumed. Another story! When we stack boxes to bring into one of our departments, sometimes, we have to stack them in such a way that we can only just squeeze them through the door, but it makes it a lot easier for us when we don’t have to make multiple trips. Believe me, when we stack the boxes, it is a safe, straight way, there is nothing teetering, nor tottering. SO! When I have such a load on my cart, PLEASE do NOT come in behind it, shoving it through, upsetting the boxes, knocking them all over the floor, while I’m just straightening it so I can go through the door with it. This in NO way indicates that I am having difficulty getting it through the door, I’m just taking my time, because I’m not in a rush. You think I am for some odd reason. It’s great that you decided to help put the boxes back on the damn cart for me, but honestly, just stay away next time, so they you wouldn’t cost me 5 minutes of my life, 5 minutes I could have used to unload the items, and make it back down to my office in time to answer emails and get back to my job. Honestly people, just because I’m a small girl does not mean I don’t have muscle. I have a LOT more muscle then the decrepit old man who TRIED to help me, who was going for cancer treatment. I work in a cancer clinic. Stay out of my way.

hehe, who knows, but I doubt it. But I mean, I understand it's not the first thing that would pop into someones head when they try to help somebody, but I think the main focus is, "What will they think of me if I DON'T help?" Thanks for responding and happy myLotting!

AW! They probably think it's the same thing, "it's ok." vs "I accept your apology."....I would tell my kids though, ask them WHY they did it lol Thanks for responding and happy myLotting!

You gotta love misguided do-gooding! It sounds to me like you're a bit of a pocket rocket, candymarie! I promise that if I ever see you somewhere and you're pushing, pulling, lifting, carrying, hauling, driving, steering, shoving, bending, straightening anything, or even fussing about with something that's teetering and tottering; I'll leave you be and continue on my way! Congrats on posting your first ever panda spanking discussion too!
