Have you ever thrown a plate in anger?

I threw a plate of spaghetti bolognese across the kitchen in temper once. That was many years ago, and I haven't thrown anything else in anger since. The plate flew across the room and landed in the washing-up bowl. I was so amazed that it didn't smash that somehow it made me realise how pointless it had been. I felt deflated! Have you ever thrown anything in anger?

I haven't thrown a plate in anger, not to my knowledge, but I have thrown things in anger, and I know that it's pointless to do but it is gratifying at the time. It doesn't make up for later when you feel guilty though. It's amazing it landed in the washing-up bowl and not on the floor etc, I'm sure you did feel better after throwing it though I'm sure for a minute you felt angry it didn't smash? I know that sometimes when I've thrown things I've felt angry it didn't land harder on the ground, etc. Well I hope you have a wonderful day.

That was what was strange - first I was furious that it didn't smash into tiny pieces or make a huge mess, and then I though "oh good, I haven't got to clear anything up"!

That's the funny thing, sometimes when things like that happen I know I've gotten even madder that I've had to clean it up, then I feel so stupid for doing it in the first place, and that turns into guilt.

But that hasn't made you stop throwing things then?

When my twins were babies I felt so stressed all the time! My husband was working 2 jobs so I could stay home and take care of the kids. Nobody would come around to help me! Plus I had PPD to deal with on top of the kids. One day I got so frustrated I threw a piece of fruit against the wall. It splattered everywhere, onto the ceiling and counters. It was a pretty messy clean up.. not sure I ever got every bit of it. It actually felt really good! I felt so calm and relaxed afterwards! I haven't done it since though. A few months ago my husband actually threw a bowl of noodles out the window!! We were both trying to quit smoking at the same time, so tempers were running high as it was. We were fighting with each other a lot. I can't even remember what set him off, but he got mad and threw his bowl. He says he meant to throw it in the sink, but instead it went out the window above the sink, which was closed, so the window broke. My neighbors were asking some questions after that! LOL

I quit for 4 months, but then went back to it. Hubby quit for a couple weeks, but also went back.. part of the reason I went back. It's hard to be the only non-smoker!

Four months is amazing. Maybe next time you will succeed - I've never managed to quit for that long.

Did you manage to give up smoking? I've been trying to quit for years, but life seems so much easier when you can just go and have a quiet ciggy! When my daughter was little, my partner and I used to take it in turns to go outside and chop wood -it was such a good way of de-stressing!

Yes I have and you know what? The darn thing bounced off the wall and hit me. Needless to say I've never thrown any thing again.

Well sometimes when I am nervous for some things I feel like throwing something but then I come into myself and realise that I am wrong. I got far only by throwing a book from the table to the floor. But I rarely do that. It happened once in particular since I had so much stress and many problems and exams where due to begin so thats mainly the reason.

I think a lot of people find that a good way to relieve stress is to do something energetic like go for a run, punch a punch-bag or chop wood. But throwing a book is easier!

Surely having a punch bag at home would be a great idea and a great help! I think I would use it quiet often!

I have thrown a the plastic bottle of pespi. Even though I was mad I new that if I threw something and got it all over the carpet it would make things even worse.
