And I thought I had done some large projects.

Some elderly ladies in England have spent 23 years knitting an exact replica of their village--and its all to scale. I can't imagine taking on this kind of project, an afghan seems too much to me. But Kudos to these ladies for completing such a wonderful project. They will be auctioning off the pieces soon. Read the article here http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1181368/A-close-knit-community-Meet-ladies-whove-spent-years-stitching-entire-Kent-village.html (not a referral link). Have you ever complete an insanely big project? Tell us about it.

Thanks for the link, well - I thought I had done some large projects too.. My largests knitting project is a wide skirt made of thin yarn. I started at the bottom and did it all in one piece - it got les wide the higher up I came.. Took me many years to make it but I still use the skirt.

Nice, I bet it was pretty. Good to hear you still use it. I have done some baby blankets which are small but still the largest crochet thing I have done. I am pretty slow so a project of any size takes me a long time.

Wow.... no. There's no way I could do something like that. I made a Barbie Doll Camper from plastic canvas one time. It was complicated and took a long time to make and that's as big a project as I ever want to get into. I like to see the finished work!

What a wonderful story, Aurone, and a formidable task for those dear ladies! There's a lot to be said for teamwork.I hope they earn a ton of money for their hard work.

And think of how much fun they had together working on the project.

That is insane and also amazing. I don't knit, but I crochet. I'm working on two large projects right now--a tablecloth and a bedspread. Both are thread crochet. I suck at yarn crochet. My favorite project was one I did several years ago. My mother-in-law was going through her cedar chest and found a thread crochet project her mother had started 50 years ago. She passed away from cancer before being able to finish it. We found the original crochet thread in the cedar chest as well, and it was in pristine condition. My mother-in-law gave me the project and said she knew I'd be able to figure out how to finish it. There was no written pattern, so I had to figure it out on my own. The basic motif was a hexagon shape. When pieced together, it made a beautiful kaleidoscope pattern. I spent about a year working on it. I finished it and gave it to my mother-in-law for her 50th wedding anniversary. That to date, is my favorite project.

A very nice gift indeed. And how creative of you to figure out how to finish it. I am sure your Mother-in-Law really appreciated it. I have made many smaller projects over the years mainly cross stitching that I have given away to various friends and relatives.

Wow. I didn't read the whole article, but I wonder what the motivation behind this was. I mean, sure, it's amazing, but what on earth would motivate a person to do something like that? They obviously really love their village. . I've never taken on a project that huge (in fact..I haven't even LIVED for 23 years!).

lol. They were all elderly ladies that belong to the same association. I guess they got together and knitted as something to do.
