Blind Windows

I have those vertical blinds that seem to be standard in so many apartments. They're white, but luckily in this apartment they don't have stains I cannot get out.
So what are on your windows? Blinds, curtains...Did you have a choice in the matter, or did they come standard like my apartment?

I believe that those blinds are standard in all apartments if they supply the window covering, and that is because they are so cheap. I hate mine, they are always breaking or won't open, especially the vertical one at the patio door. They are easy to put up and yes they stain, and break off so you got a spot that anyone can look into, I know I got one in my bedroom now has the side broke out of it by the cat. I guess anyone could come up and look right in at me in bed, but I try to keep the curtain closed over it. I hate them and would perfer blinds. But we as long as we live in someone else apartment will have to deal with them, unless we can take them down and put up our own window dressing.

I remember so vividly when my grandmother, mother and I first moved into this apt in 1961 which I still live in we had the whole deal---vertical blinds (then made out of metal) and curtains---we had to get our own blinds as our apt didn't come with them. As years went by, we ditched the curtains since the cats thought having curtains meant something to climb up on...LOL. Now for many years just the blinds--I was hoping to get nice new ones as these that I have are at least ten years old....and looking at them could stand to be cleaned---a job I HATE!

I have no blinds in the house
We have curtains in the roomie and the other roomie's room that I made.
I actually have shower curtains hanging in my front room, that's that's only a temporary messure - I hope - because I got some tab curtains that I want to hang.
I have 2 roller shades in the house and then, because the roomie works in the room that has glass block windows and can't stand too much light because of her vision problems, I made some tab curtains to go over part of the window.
Yeah, I have a sewing machine and I know how to use it....

We have horizontal blinds on all the window and the door leading to the balcony patio. They are standard for the apartment. Many will put up curtains on the inside of the apartment but I tend to like the simplicity of the blinds. I like being able to let the sunshine in by opening the slats, or raising them all the way up so I can sit on the couch and look out over the lake behind our house.

Hello AmbiePam. I don't blind windows, but I use curtains instead. My curtain is good looking with some nice pattern on it, which is mainly coconut trees that I love to see.

We have blinds here, and also curtains or the top curtain things. We live out in the country in a doublewide, so it was choice. I much rather have both, with maybe a longer blind on the rooms that get the most light and have televisions in it.

I don't like blinds because they can be quite difficult to clean... so i just use curtains in my apartment... but in the office... since there is someone assigned to clean and maintain... my boss opted for blinds because that is the best look... curtains is like not formal enough...

I love to have blinder and then curtains right after. it helps keep your house colder. And especially it is easy to clean the window as well. ...

We have those horrible verticle blinds on our windows, and we aren't allowed to change them. Our girls have already started to destroy them, so I am now putting all my spare money into saving to replace them when we leave, but that's not for about another 12 years yet.
I'd prefer to have something like roman blinds or anything that is horizontal. I want them to be able to be pulled up during the day to prevent little fingers from pulling the beading off!!!!

My hubby and I own a house. So to some extent we have choice. But we have LARGE windows. And that can be an expensive dealing. So we generally have stuck with something we can afford. Which does limiot choices. Cutains at this point.

I do not have any curtains in the kitche - I have hanfgning baskets insteas. In my sitting area I have heavy cream linen drapes that are only closed at nights. In my bedroom I chose sage green fabric for silky drapes but they do nopt draw across the windows. Just for decoration att he top and down the sides. That's it! I like to have the sun coming in and vrightening the house.

I have vertical blinds as well, and I can't STAND them! My cat likes to run through them and smack them with his paws to get our attention. Unfortunately, there are FIVE sets of these blinds throughout our apartment--there are even a set in our bathroom! I would love to take a set or two down and install some nice curtains, but there is no storage here, so I wouldn't have anywhere to put the blinds once I removed them.
And I have other battles to fight for, like convincing my landlady that I should remove the tacky wallpaper that is peeling in the bathroom.

I just moved into a new house and it came with nothing on the windows so we bought those paper shades from the home improvement store and they look pretty good for now. I have over 20 windows so I will need time to buy them all.

We have curtains, It was our choice I guess since we own where we live. But I would love to have some blinds, bu my husband feels they close him in to much same reason he always likes keeping the front door open so that we can see out of the screen door. I would think it would keep a place cooler in the summer for sure having blinds up. We would probably end up with the vertical ones if we ever do get them. I have heard that put them in a warm bath of water over night to which a few scoops of oxi-clean has been added and it can clean them right up..never tried so not sure if it worked.

We have those white blinds in our apartment too and I hate them! They collect dust and like you said, they stain. Our dog likes to look out the window so he's broke some of them so we're having to buy new ones. We have curtains in our living room also, but it's just the blinds in the other rooms since I hope we'll be able to move out in a few months.

There were blinds on the windows when
we moved in. They were in practically
perfect shape, but really dusty.
So, I washed them and they're
fine now. No problems.
I still hang curtains up over them.
Not sure that's needed.
Just a habit, I guess.

I have curtains which was my choice. I prefer curtains to blinds because I think that they look nicer then blinds, I do not care for blinds at all. Also curtains are much easier to wash then blinds since I can take my curtains down and run them through the washer when needed, try doing that with blinds, lol!
I am curious though, why would you not have a choice in the matter? I understand that you said that the blinds came standard with your apartment, but, whenever I have lived in an apartment that came with curtains or blinds already on the windows, if I didn't like what was there, I just took them down and put up my own window dressings. I would store the window dressings that came with the apartment, then when I moved out of that apartment, I would just take my curtains down and put the curtains or blinds that came with the place back up. Why couldn't you do the same if you wanted to? Just curious.

Unfortunately, no. We have to keep them there, and periodically they have apartment checks. Maybe they do it because a lot of the people in the place are on Section 8, I'm not sure why they "check". If the blinds aren't there, we get fined. Makes no sense to me.

Hi AmbiePam, In my lounge I have vertical blinds and curtains as in the summer I can close if sun too bright but it still be light and in the winter I close curtains over too for extra warmth in the other rooms I just have curtains. I got the blinds as last summer some kids climbed up onto the wall and even though I am elevated up from ground lebel they could also see straight in so it acts as a privacy thing too. Huggles. Ellie :D
I answered an discussion prior to this to you but for some reason it just disappeared into cyberspace so sorry as can't seem to find discussion again at moment. x
