Scripture - John 18:39 - 40
The Jews were told they could choose between Jesus or any prisoner. They chose a prisoner to be freed and Jesus to be excecuted. Even though this was supposed to happen as the Scriptures ssaid it would, it was stil very sad. Imaginge how Jesus felt when the Jews chose a prisoner to be set free and asked that He be killed. At that stage He must have felt rejection.
Don't we sometimes do the same as what the Jews did. Sometimes we chose sin over Jesus, thus rejecting Him by chosing to sin. How many times do we stand before a descition where we must choose between right and wrong. If we choose right, there will be repercusions, if we choose wrong, we will sin. Some time we think of our earthly wellbeing first, our jobs, friends, etc. We then make decisions that will give us favour with the world, but to God it is sin. Then we are also rejecting Jesus. We have the Holy Spirit who tells us what is sin, thus we know that the thing we decide to do is sin, but still we do it. Afterwards we regret what we did.
Praise God that He hear us when we have regret for what we did and repent before Him. In His great mercy He cleanses us from all sin, and we stand again holy and rightious before Him.
May you hear the voice of the Holy Spirit as He guides you in rightiousness.
Blessings

There are times when what we should do in order to follow His way are clear. We have the 'Ten Commandments', after all and they are supposed to guide us. Much clearer, however, is Jesus' summary: "Thou shalt love the Lord thy God ... and thy neighbour as thyself." In other words, love God first and then acknowledge your neighbour to be as good and worthy of love as yourself.
'Neighbour' is something that Jesus was careful to define as well. It means anyone at all with whom you have any dealings whatsoever. Even though I don't know you, Beertje, you are my neighbour because I am responding to your discussion. You are also my brother/sister according to Jesus, because you are a human, like me, and therefore a child of God.

Hi there, neighbour. Yes you are right, there are certain things that we know straight from the Bible is right or wrong. Then there are time that we must choose, and the Bible is not always clear on some things, but because we have the Holy Spirit, we know it would be wrong to do certain things.
May you be blessed. Thanks for taking the time to read this devotion and responding.

These choices between right and wrong, as I have understood, are part of our development of our souls. Even if we choose what looks right, later on or for other people might turn our to be wrong. What the Jews did might have looked right for themselves, only taking into consideration Old Testament "laws" given to them by their (corrupt?) Pharisees. This is why Jesus forgave them "since they aren't knowing what they do".
Study of the sense of Bible should bring our souls closer and closer to the Lord's requirements. And I am very happy that he gave us explanations also in modern times such as the New Revelation to Jakob Lorber (1800-1864). In a quite modern German Jesus dictated him among other texts a Great Gospel of John, which for me has eliminated many many doubts resulting from the translation and interpretation cascade from Hebrew to Greek to Latin to modern languages. The original German texts survived even Nazi atheism and meanwhile are available in many languages. English versions can be downloaded from www.franky1.com for free.
