Disappearing cutlery? Just where does it go?

When my son was small I could accept losing teaspoons as he learnt to put his yohurt ots into the waste but this week the majority of my utlery seems to have just disappeared, I have dessert spoons and teaspoons but a very distinct lack of kniives and forks, especially forks. All the washing up is done and put away so just where have they gone? Does anyone else have this problem or is it me and my strange house, just heard a loud bang upstairs and have been up to investigate that mystery easily solved my little one had knocked his juice bottle off the bedside cabinet in his sleep, he fidgets a lot LOL. Any idea where my forks might be? And no this isn't a panda spanking discussion although some may think it should be LOL. Huggles. Ellie :D

I have the same problem and my son is not little he is a grown man. I just do not know where they all go, it is just crazy. There is no sense to my talking to him about it because he always says he doesn't know what happened to them.

Where does it go? It goes into my sons dark cave of a room never to see sunlight again. I have found an endless supply of cutlery in there. When we run out we send him up to scavenge for us. It is so pitiful that you have to laugh.

Maybe you have a ghost in the house? I seem to collect untensils, not sure where they come from and I make sure I count my knives every night. You never know when you'll need that big butcher knife and when you reach for it its not there.

Has he by any chance taking a liking to spoon bending?
I remember when I watched some documentary about metal bending when I was young and took our forks for practice. I hid them so that my mother would not notice them when she cleans my room.
Or maybe he eats at places around the house and leaves the cutlery there or it falls under the bed? Happy hunting :-)

I have a 22-year old Bermuda Triangle living with me. My dishes, glasses, cups and all sorts of silverware seem to disappear on a regular basis. His room is quite the pit of stench. Some things, after coming out of there, are only fit for the trash. Debris is hermetically sealed to it and just isn't worth the effort or elbow grease to get off.
When he finally moves out, all the leftover kitchenware is going with him and I am going to buy myself all new stuff! I can't wait!!!!

Hi Trace86, I think it may be responses disappearing as well as the cutlery as I have already responded to you just gone to respond to another comment and response not there LOL. I have been through teenage daughters but never experienced this and my son is five so I guess I have all that to come as the woman at work with boys/men of teenage/early twenties all moan about the stench of their sons rooms and the missing plates, cups etc. Huggles. You confirmed it...we all have this problem. I have no idea where they go. I have had this problem for many many years. When the children were younger and now with the grandchildren. I have bought so many sets of silverware, not real silver for everyday use. I have bought just the small spoons many times too. I'll even get stray spoons at thrift store or yard sales if they match my set.
It's a mystery that's for sure. But I think your forks got together with my spoons and all of my daughters silverware that has left under mysterious means. lol

well, a lot of my flatware goes missing because the roomie leaves it on her desk and the cats knock it off.
Sometimes I go in and use the reacher to pick up the stuff. I recently picked up a spoon that had been hanging around on the floor by my computer tower. I've also had to throw a few away because they got a bit chewed up by the garbage disposer.
you might see if they have gone to strange places in food or maybe out to dig in the dirt....

Remember the nursery rhyme 'Hey Diddle Diddle'? It tells you where all the missing cutlery went. "...and the dish ran away with the spoon". It's where 4 of my salad forks went! Now I'm not missing any dishes, but those smaller sized salad forks that my kids use...

Funny you should mention this as my mum has the same problem! Whenever we go there we can never find any forks, and have to improvise with plastic ones, small ones or broken ones! I don't know where they go either, so I'm not much help I'm afraid! Luckily we don't seem to have a cutlery black hole in our house, although cds and dvds are a whole other story
. My daughter admits to playing with them, but can never remember what she did with them, and we've lost so many good ones.
We've looked everywhere, so it's like she's posted them into some whole other dimension! Or maybe it's not her at all, maybe the aliens have taken them to learn more about life on earth. (I'm sure they'll learn a lot from the Mr Men, lol!) Perhaps they've also taken your knives and forks, although I'm not sure why. Could be that they're just short of them?!

Could your missing cutlery be with all the socks that we are missing at our house? (LOL) It’s interesting, if no one else in the family has meals in other rooms and you have searched your son’s room and kitchen thoroughly the cutlery has either being thrown in the trash or you may just have a presence who likes to steal eating utensils!

Hi Paula, I think it may be the latter but it doesn't bother me but to keep replacing cutlery is expensive, Jill is on a hunt for her bag so maybe our cutlery and socks are in that so lets hope these items reappear at some stage. I also have a sock problem, I buy all one colour now so if one goes missing I can stillmatch a pair LOL. Huggles. Ellie :D

Hello ellie333, wow I seem to have the same problem as you. In my household our collections of forks seem to keep disappearing. We just bought another collection of forks, spoons and knives. The las tset I got was a couple of years ago and more than half disappeared. When we have family over it got to the point of using plastic fork for house members and real for others. I am wondering how long it will be before I start to see forks disappearing

I wonder if they are with my striped bag I can't find? Maybe they took off together! I had my bag filled with stamping stuff, went to stamp club, came home and put my supplies away and since haven't been able to find the bag! If you find out where they are hiding will you check for my maroon and white striped bag please?

Hi Jill, The other night a phone went missing and we searched high and low and couldn't find and went to neighbours next door, I joingly said about another neighbour of mine whenever she could find something used to say St. Antony three times where are thee and she would find. Came back fro neighbours and there it was in front of me on sofa, very strange. When you find the bag if it is full of forks please send back to me LOL. Huggles. Ellie :D

This could either be human error or OOps.. I don't wish to scare you, but could be that...
But then again, sometimes whenever I find things missing, I will find them the next few days lying around on places that I wouldn't have imagined. In the cabinet, behind the sofa, under the bed and many more.

Well we must be having the same problem because I am short of forks too, the other week I had to go out and buy some more dessert spoons and this week it looks like it is going to have to be forks!! I have looked everywhere, in the garden, washing machine, under furniture, everywhere but not one sign. Oh and in the bin!!

Not sure about forks. Under the sofa, maybe? I know I've lost quite a few knives, especially the ones I use for preparing food. They probably went out with the potato peelings. Not sure where they end up either. Hope it's not as pig swill. It might be a bit sharp for the poor pigs.

I have the same problem! My husband says I throw it away to keep from washing it. LOL, if you've seen my other discussion. I honestly don't know what happens to the silverware. But I cannot keep a set for long at all. It just slowly goes missing to where I realize I don't have enough forks, or spoons or whatever the case may be. Good luck with your investigation!

I was about to ask do you have children. I find mine all over the freaking house and yard. I went and purchased a new set, placed the old set in a bottom drawer and told them they could play with the old set and not my new.. That has worked wonders.
