I have to apologize to everyone here. Over the past couple of weeks I was without my personal computer and access to my Outlook. This meant that I had to access Mylot through the links, without benefit of any e-mail notifications as I've become accustomed to.
It was then I became....
A SELFISH MYLOTTER
I started a few discussions, but unless I remembered to check them, I didn't hold any conversation. I responded to a few discussion of others, but rarely was it my friends or even my interests. Even then, I never followed up with comments if they chose to reply.
See, all that stuff takes extra work when you don't have access to your e-mail notifications. This is something I took for granted, but never again. I've got my outlook set up for the e-mail in my new place, and I will be making sure to keep in contact with everyone that contacts me in one way or another, making conversations instead of posts.
I guess this would be a question for the senior members mostly, although anyone can weigh in. Have you ever been a "Selfish MyLotter"? Only commenting on your own discussions? Not continuing conversation on other discussions?

He he he he he he! Wicket Drknlvly6781! Who though of herself only.
You are not alone though. An year earlier, when I had only half an hour a day for myLot, I used to only start a dsicusson and never bothered answering to their discussions. You can't help it becaus it is not in your hand to do myLot for 3-4 hours a day, which allows you to go and visit your friends discussions, isn't it?

I never realized how much navigation those e-mails save though! That on top of only having 1-2 hours to comment really hampered things for me. But I got a few weeks of vacation coming up, and I am going to have a ball responding and posting now that I got my system right!

Yep, and I got a lot of work to do to get it done lol. You don't realize how much you miss in my lot during a period of a month until you get the e-mails!!!

First of all, that's OK being 'selfish'...we all have had issues now and then which has prevented us from being more active and connected and I am sure all will understand. However, regarding myself I dont think I have ever become a 'selfish mylotter'...I enjoy responding more than starting my own discussions, in fact I find starting my own discussions as a great deterrent to keep in touch with others. I have to respond to all posts in my discussions and I dont have enough time to check out on others..so untill and unless its an emergency help that I need, I wont be starting discussions, but will respond to others.
However, I have actually seen quite a few 'seniors' here who do not ever respond to any of my discussions or reply back (if I have responded to thier's)...its them I think are truly selfish and if the discussion is not truly interesting, I dont reply to them anymore.

That's true. The point of having discussions here is to DISCUSS! To have dialog. Its no fun when you make a good response to someone's discussion, especially a senior, and make pretty good points or ask questions, then never get a comment back. You are right Sudipta, that is truly selfish.

I've done that too. some days I just replied to discussions and never checked back. I used to check back within a few days at least and then never go back to that discussion. people do that to me in my discussions too anyway, so they can't really call me selfish if I do the same. but anyway we can't control what other people say or think about us, can we?

It really happens sometimes. there are thousand of discussions here in mylot. And sometime we do forget to come back to the discussions that we have responded to. its forgivable. What is important is you continuosly participate actively and sensibly to the discussions. Commenting and responding to discussions which yo find interesting and rating them positively helps everyone in this site.

It wasn't so much as I forgot as I couldn't access MyLot the way I was used to. Before I would just go to my outlook and pick from the discussions that were sent to me by friends. But then my computer had a major malfunction so I could only access it from school. That was a big headache because I didn't have a roll of my friends discussions to choose from. I haven't just searched and picked since about three months into me joining this site lol! I got the computer together, but then I moved *eyeroll* It was just a series of things keeping me off the site like I wanted to be. But thanks for your response just the same.

I'm a bit of the opposite. lol I'll spend all day responding to everyone else's discussions and completely forgetting about the ones I've started! It's not a smart thing to do, but I promise to do better in the future.

Although in one light that could be viewed as selfish, on the other hand you truly get your daily load of new information that way lol! However you plan to do it, have happy MyLotting in the future.

I don't know what I would do without my Mylot e-mail notifications. They are the only way i can really keep track of what discussions I have and have not responded to. I have been in a similar position to you, in that I have been without a computer, and had e-mail problems of my own in the past. My solution to the e-mail thing is not to use an ISP based e-mail. I like my webmail, because if I am without my computer, I can still get into my account on another computer. I will never use ISP based e-mail again!
