Did you do things as a younger person that you would never do today as an adult? I have had this experience with the ocean. As a young adult (teenager) I used to swim in the ocean. We would have fun riding the waves and ducking under the water when the big waves came along. We had no fears. Now, you could not pay me to go into the ocean. I am afraid not only of the currents but of the creatures of the sea, especially jellyfish and sharks. I can appreciate the water from the shoreline or just dip my feet in the water but no way will I go in over my head where I cannot touch the bottom.

I think as you get older you realize that you are getting closer and closer to the end. You no longer have your "whole life ahead of you" I think it's only human to want to live as long as you can, therefore, you develop more fears. You realize more the importance of taking care of your body. Not doing jello shots in our 50's are we?

I've gone the other way... things I was afraid of when I was younger (the dark, dogs, being alone at night) no longer bother me. Now, there are things I can't do now that I used to, but that's something else entirely (usually called "getting old).

Believe it or not, my husband and I feel the exact same way about the ocean!! lol As a kid, I got to see and swim in the ocean only once but hubby several times but like you, we were kids, we didn't know the dangers of the ocean but now as adults and hubby with his training with the Army and me watching too many tv shows on nature, no way in hell could any body pay me enough to get in there again!! lol Nooooo way!!

Yes i agree. There's a lot of accidents these days involving sharks and jellyfish so we better just go on safe waters with not much of those.
