Last month I mentioned that I was going to have knee replacement surgery. Well, June 11th I went in and had the surgery done. It is kind of a strange feeling. I can walk without pain in the knee joint as they removed part of the bone from both ends of the knee. It's the tendons and ligaments that are the most painful right now. There were a lot of those things to be moved out of the way, and then the surgeon also used a tourniquet to control the bleeding and it has messed up the tendon that runs from my butt down the back of the leg to the back of my knee. I have to sit on a pillow when I use a chair or ride in the car. It has been 18 days since the surgery, and today is the first day that I have felt up to starting a new discussion. I have spent the past few weeks either getting the leg to work again or napping. Of course the cats and dogs have added interest to the situation. Khuay especially! But that's another discussion. Has anyone else out there had a total knee replacement? How long did it take for you to get back up on your feet and walking well again? How long did the pain last? Are you happy that you got the replacement?

Oliver and his bottle - a few days later
my roomie's mom had both knees and both hips replaced her first knee wasn't done well at all and she still has trouble with it, but she went to a different doc for the other knee and both hips and has been very happy She had her first knee done the first week of October 2005. How do I remember that? because we went out to visit her and got Oliver from the neighbors across the street...

I have never had a knee replacement surgery, but I have had back surgery times 2! I can't say that I know how you are feeling, but I do know that when I had my first surgery, it took me a few days to feel normal, too normal really. I messed it up again and then, after the second surgery, it took a good month for me to feel right again. My grandmother had knee replacement surgery though and she was quite fortunate. It only took her about a week to be up and active again.
