While we were out today looking @ yard sales this topic came to mind. When you see a yard sale or like-wise where the kids are selling say lemonaide or kool-aid will you purchase a glass? pass it by? Or purchase it but dump it out w/o the kids seeing? Just wondering as people worry about sanitation of their food & drink + with it not being a repuitable business that they would pass these young business people by?

I've never had the chance to patron a kids lemonade stand. Come to think of it, I've never even seen a lemonade stand outside of a cartoon show before. Do they even exist in real life? Do kids need to get a permit to be able to sell goods on the sidewalk? If so, how would they go about doing it? There's probably a ton of paperwork involved. There always is. It's like the system is set up to kill ones spirit, and diminish your drive to get things done. The fine print is enough to make you say "Dude...Just never-the-heck-mind then."

Hey! The way I remember doing it is just setting up what ever lawn table I could find and grab a pitcher and make some lemonade . Make really pretty signs as well . I think it you go all out and do it outside your yard you might have to talk to someone and get the green light!

i normally help out little kids selling lemonade. when i was a little kid, me and my friend set up a lemonade stand next to where the guys from the shipyard would get out and walk to their cars. we figured thats where we would be able to get the most business so we could buy some candy, haha. Some people would come buy and give us money, but not get a drink or anything. we didnt really care, we just wanted candy money. haha. i know on the news not too long ago there was a story about how a neighbor got mad that the little girl across the street was selling lemonade, so he called some workers place and had her shut down for operating without a permit. it was the meanist thing ever. i couldnt believe someone would do something like that.

Now that you mention it I do recall some guy making a big stink about them not having a permit. Some people have nothing better to do, but cause trouble with little kids.

I haven't seen any kids with a lemonade stand yet this summer, but in the past, I've turned my car around and went back to where kids sell it and buy one cup for me and if anyone's with me and want some, I get them some, too. I always give them double what they are asking and tell them to keep the change. I'll admit, here have been a few times I've tasted it, put it in my cup holder and dumped it out later because it just doesn't taste good. But I do it cause I remember selling it as a kid. (I lived in the middle of no where) and sitting for long amounts of time, waiting.... It's hot and boring until someone stops so I always make sure they get a little bit of money and a little excitement of seeing a customer stopping to make a purchase. I think it's a good start for young entrepreneurs....let them sell it, buy it from them, what does it hurt? It's just a little change that you have with you?

I also don't see a big difference between buying it from a kid on the street and a lemonade stand at a carnival or fair, alot of times you don't see the process of how either is made. I think I would rather have lemonade from a kid with dirty hands than a teenager/adult at a stand....

Hello, Gosh that brings me back to being a kid A few times my brother me and our friends from the block tried this . No one really bought it and maybe if someone next door was out they did . Our parents used to buy a cup for a few bucks lol. I rememeber trying to knock on doors selling it and pet rocks , and well no one bought it . What else I really havent seen kids selling lately and if i had i would buy a glass and yep drink it (prob would have so much sugar in it) I saw a movie where it was like 3 a glass haha and what the heck these days . Think we had ours and 25 cents .

I don't stop at kids stands. I really don't see kids doing this too much anymore. I think the main reason I wouldn't stop is I very rarely walk anywhere and to stop in my car when I am on my way somewhere is inconvenient to say the least. What I do see alot in my area in street cart vendors that sell ice cream, some sell food like corn, or tamales. There always seems to be people who are buying from these vendors, but I don't feel comfortable purchasing the food, maybe the ice cream which is you standard popsicles and ice cream bars, but the food? No, that's ok.

I haven't seen any of those lately, in fact for a long time. Of course I don't really go to yard sales, and I haven't seen any in front of businesses. But if I did, I would stop. I mean you're correct, I don't have to even actually drink the lemonade. I would buy it, and then when I left, I could pour it out.

I always buy drinks from kids' stands! I admire children who are inventive and ambitious enough to make their own money. I'll even stop my car and get out to buy a cup. As for sanitation, it's over rated. Those kids might have a little dirt on their hands but a little dirt never hurt anybody--except those who are germ-a-phobes and have broken down their immune systems by not allowing them anything to work on.

I have once or twice bought something from a kid's lemonade stand, but normally I pass it by. Not because I'm worried about the sanitation, but for a slew of other reaasons, lack of money, not thirsty or hungry at the time, the kids are being rude to people who are passing without stopping... or any number of reasons.

I almost always stop and buy lemonade, or rifle through the yard sale, unless I'm late for work or something. When I was a kid, I had a lemonade stand every summer, and it's one of my best memories from childhood. I work in food service, so I have a pretty good idea of what you need to be careful with and what you really don't, and there's not much that can go wrong with lemonade. I'm not worried at all about sanitation when I buy lemonade from a stand like that.
