Every year millions of people buy or rent a new place to live for themselves and their families. Moving can exciting and stressful. However, some people are finding that moving can kill their pets and cause serious health problems for themselves and their children! The problem is abandoned meth labs! Some are left over from police raids; but, many are simply the result of someone having a meth lab and then relocating. The toxic chemicals soak into the walls, carpets, cabinets, counters, and into the ventilation system. These toxic chemicals then poison the new owners/renters when they move in and the cost to remove the chemicals and make the house safe to live in runs into thousands of dollars. There is no odor to most of these left over toxins; so, you cannot easily tell there is a problem until people or pets start getting seriously ill and the tests come back positive for methamphetamines. Meth labs are portable and can be set up in any home in any room. They are located in all types of neighborhoods - rich, poor, and middle-class. Here is a link to an article about this problem - http://www.nytimes.com/2009/07/14/us/14meth.html?_r=1&th&emc=th So, if you moved recently and are developing health problems; know someone in that situation; OR, if you are thinking about moving - this is something to watch out for.

Thanks but I won't be having that problem. I plan on moving by next year. However the house I'm moving to is brand new which my boyfriend designed and had built. I just have to try and sale my house here in New Mexico. With the market the way it is I may have to settle and rent it out instead. If so, then I will wait till the housing market gets better maybe in another 5 years and try to sale it again.

Buying new is safer; but, not always possible. Even if this does not affect you personally, if you have friends who are moving (buying or renting) you can pass the info on to them; especially, if they start having health problems shortly after moving in.
