What would you do if a car tailgates you?

When I drive in the city or on the highway, I often encounter tailgaters. These drivers approach your car from the back and go as close as they could. Accelerating your car won't help because they'll still be near you. Then they'd just swerve, overtake, and move on. Don't they know that it's dangerous to do that - or they enjoy doing it? My car was kissed in the butt once because an idiot got too close and when I hit the brakes abruptly to avoid the car in front, I was hit behind. Of course, that bloke didn't admit his mistake. Have this happened to you. What would you have done? Are there rules in your country to get these blokes out of the way?

I have had this happen to me many of times. I'll be driving anf many people will tail gate me. I figure if they're in that much of a hurry then they would probably go around. But to the people that continuously tail gate me, I slow down I will slower my speed. And figure if they hit me or well at least were I'm at it will be there fault because they shouldn't have been following so closely behind you in the first place. The person that hit you from behind well that was his own fault and you had to prevent yourself from hitting the person that was in front of you. I never tail gate cause I believe It is so rude and if I'm in a hurry I'll just go around.

Slam on the brakes. If they are the right distance away they won't hit you. If they hit you and drive away, take there number plate down and take it to the cops. That'll teach them. Alternative is just to take it. Some people are just mean.
