So i was checking out worldy news as i do everyday and I came upon this article and as much as i disagree with children hunting by themselves..I am kinda bothered how they made this accident agaisnt all kids hunting alone..here is some parts of the article.. Just before Tyler Kales was led from a Mount Vernon, Wash., courtroom to begin serving his sentence earlier this month, he apologized to the family of his victim. “All I want to say is how sorry I am,” the reed-thin 15-year-old said in a quavering voice to relatives of Pamela Almli, 54, who died instantly when Kales mistook her for a bear and shot her in the head Aug. 2, 2008, while hunting in the fog in western Washington's Skagit County. Kales, convicted by a judge of second-degree manslaughter in June, received 30 days in juvenile detention at his July 10 sentencing. The case highlighted issues about hunting on public land in Washington that were news to some state residents. First, hunting in close proximity to hikers was perfectly legal. Second, there was no requirement for trailhead signs to warn hikers like Almli that there were hunters in the area,if u sish to read the whole... here is the link...http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/31952727/ns/us_news-life/ ok noww my vent..it says it was foggy out..even a grown adult could oif mistaken anyone as a bear or what not..people hiking that live in teh area would know to wear bright colors..and teh peopke that dont..more reason why there shoudl be signs all over,,it was an accident..i remember a white house member that shot his best friend and he didnt get squat from what i rememebr..but icould br wrong..needless..this kinda angered me..im sure the boy had hunted before..and if not it was an accident..i personally wouldnt go hunting in tthe fog just for this reason..so what are your thoughts on the topic?

I also read this to day, there are a few things that I couldn't understand about this. The first thing is having hunting areas next to trails were people walk, other people shouldn't even be around the same area as someone hunting. I am surprised that someone hasn't gotten shot before this. The second thing that I can't understand is why his parents would even let him hunt if it was that foggy out. I don't think that child should have to wait until they get almost an adult to be able to hunt. I think they should be able to go hunting at any age as long as they have proper supervision. My youngest son has hunted ever since he was old enough learn how to hold a shotgun but he always had someone with him. He also had to take classes to be able to legally hunt when he got a little older. I do say that some states could be a little bit better when it comes to safety. I guess what I'm trying to say is if who ever is over the hunting safety regulations would have been concerned more about the safety in this area, this accident wouldn't of happened in the first place.

yesss!! now who in ther right mind would let a hike trail and hunting grounds be anywhere near each other? makes no sense at all to me..and im sure theer have been other accidents there..but this is something i just saw..and as for teh fog..it might not have been foggy when he went and it may have rolled in..and then he should of waited to see if it went away or came home..neeedless to say this never swould of happened if they took more percausions!

Hunting accidents seem to happen every year. I think if people are not absolutely certain what they are shooting at they should not do it. I think the 15 yeear old in question should have had some adult supervision while he was hunting. It probably would have saved both him and his victim.

i agree totally that anyoneunder 18 shoudl be with an adult..but alot of states dont require that,,and i dont knwo if it would of saved the woman he shot.look at all the hunting accidents from adults...they happen to matter what age..and havin a hiking trail is what confuses me wheer they can hunt by..why would u allow people not hunting and just walking around to be around for this reason alone? i dontthink teh boy should get sentenced like he did..i think the morons that alllowed this to happen should get it..it was an accident and bound to happen..
