Safety Issues at Daycare

My daughter just started a new daycare. When I go to pick her up she has access to open the front door and on Monday she ran out the door and into the street once I got there to pick her up! Thankfully no cars were coming and I did catch her before she made it into the middle of the road. I said something to the daycare today and I also called this child care alliance place but they said that the doors don't have to be inaccessable to children as long as there hasn't been a report of lack of supervision. The last daycare did have a lock where you had to push a bottun high up on the wall to get out. I think they should have one too cause they are less than 25 feet from the road. A main road at that that i know people fly down.

Hi, I ran a successful daycare for ten years in the San Francisco Bay Area. As a responsible daycare provider, you must get inside the brains of those toddlers and children. Some of the habits I adopted such as, never leaving any objects on edge of the table, remote controls high on top of the television, no children in the kitchen, never leaving them in the bathroom alone for but a few minutes, saved me from a ton of headaches and have to write incident reports. However, the most important valuables at my center were the children and their safety. If a child got injuried at your facility you could be in serious trouble, not only with the parents, but the county as well. Smart daycare providers always have enough helpers and stay two steps ahead of the children. Parents should go with their gut feelings about the center of choice. Never be afraid to take your child to another center if the first one doesn't work out.
