Sorry guys to spoil the plot, but it happens in both films, so if you saw the first one back in 1972 (Ouch! I was aged just one!) then you know what is coming in waves in the remake of 1996 (24 years later despite the changed actors you'd think they'd know the wave was coming LOL!
Seriously though I was at the gym today and they had the Poseidon Adventure showing and although seriously dated, I still think I prefer the original to the updated one. I did go and see Poseidon at the cinema and it's a film where you definitely get the full affects on the big screen, rather than on the television. If I had of been old enough I think I would have be in awe of the original on the big silver screen.
So the actors and actresses might have changed, I suspect most of the original cast of Poseidon Adventure have sadly left the boat and we are given new actors and actresses, the same plot, but a different story line, but of course the same thing happens, wave! No WAVE!!
But one thing I hope is that don't make a remake of Beyond The Poseidon Adventure, that was dire, with Michael Caine and Telly Savalas! Could you imagine if they made a Beyond The Titanic, ok so The Poseidon wasn't bassed on history like Titanic
So which of the two Poseidon did you enjoy the most, or haven't you seen any of them? Oh come on you must have seen one, they've rerun the original that many times the tape is well worn or have you been living at the bottom of the ocean where the Poseidon finally went in the sequel!
And now they are remaking The Taking Of Pelham 123. Do you think it's good that they are remaking old films, or is it a cheap way of getting money from people? To see the same plot, but updated.
And what old films would you like remade? What about Earthquake and Towering Inferno, do you think they'll remake those? But Towering Inferno without Steve McQueen and Paul Newman? Who'd they get to fill their unfillable boots?

Hi wolfie, I've got a sneaking feeling that I did see the remake of the poseidon adventure but it was so unmemorable I don't remember. I've seen the original many times of course and it really didn't need remaking.
Now a remake of Titanic, well that's interesting as it was a remake of 'A Night to Remember', an amazing black and white film based on the sinking of the Titanic rather than the remake which had to have a love story to help it along. The old ones are the best and if it doesn't need redoing don't bother

The Omen I felt didn't need redoing, that was just blatant cashing on a perfectly good original. Charlie and The Chocolate factory is probably the only remake that I thoroughly enjoyed, but that was because of Johnny Depp, anyone else and I think it would have flopped. Titanic did it for me because of Leonardo Di Caprio and to be honest I hadn't seen any previous films like A Night To Remember about Titanic, so for me seeing Titanic with Leo was the first ever time I saw Titanic believe it or not!

I've slept through the Poseidon Adventure so never really knew what happened. I prefer books to films, at least if you fall asleep half way through a book you can pick it up again another day. Maye one day I'll start the film from the end and work backwards. Oh dear, I think I might have given the film makers and idea.
I never even bothered with Titanic, I knew the ending. Did you know they had written a different ending in case they wanted to make a sequel?

Apparently that was the alternative plot. I don't think I'd cry even if I watched it now, I've only seen Dawn French and Jennifer Saunders version and it sort of takes the sadness away.

You never know in another 50 years time they could remake Star Wars again, damn and I won't be around!

Life is enough of a disaster without a disaster movie, those are not my genre. I like fantasy and music and romance. In general I do not enjoy remakes of the things that were my old favorites anyway. I cannot help but make comparisons.

Me three I make comparisons as well, with the actors and the plot when it deviates from the original so I am always ready to jump to where they've skipped a part or added a new part in, I have a good memory that way. And yes life is depressing as it is with what is going on in the world. That's why I love Harry Potter where I can escape into fantasy, realism is too scary for me ;0)

It's interesting that you mentioned Poseidon. Every Saturday in our apt complex we have movie nights in the Residence Lounge and we saw Poseidon this past Saturday. It was my first time seeing it. As far as action and special effects goes, it was super. The first one had all these big names in it and the second one only had two big name male stars and no big name female stars. On the whole, I believe the second Poseidon flowed (no pun intended!) a little better I just missed seeing more big names.

I agree Kurt Russell is probably the only big star name in the latest film, whereas you had a multitude of stars in the original, but hey Kurt Russell is a big name in the film industry, agreed no major female stars, and who could replace Shelley Winters!
