Food and eating at the computer

When I want a snack or something to drink, I have the habit of doing so even at the computer. A friend once spilled a soda into hers and ruined it. So far, I have been lucky. I do have to brush a few crumbs out of it occasionally. Do you eat or drink at the computer? Ever had a "spill" when doing so?

My keyboard is on a slide-out shelf, so when I'm eating at the computer I slide the keyboard in. Of course I still get crumbs and some sauce on the keys at times, but I haven't spilled anything on it. I do need a new keyboard though, as even with an airspray can or a brush, food gets stuck in there. But I haven't spilled anything full-blown on my computer or keyboard.

Hello Apples...yum! The Oreo cookies sound delicious. Glad you have never had any major spills or such. I am fortunate that I haven't, as much as I sip a glass of water and such whenever I'm at my computer.

Ah, as of right now, I'm eating at my computer :)! I think that it is a bad habit, and will lower your longevity of your computer, but it's more convenient! I have gotten lots of food in my keyboard that I can't get out, but that is why we get new computers, to replace the old crummy one and the cycle goes on. One time, I spilled some water in my keyboard and had to bang all the water out!

Hello Blue...I have heard of people using a hair dryer after spilling water in their keyboard, and it worked to prevent damage. I occasionally tip mine upside down and give it a few gentle shakes to dislodge crumbs lol, but have had no liquid spills yet. :D

Yes, I have had a few spills. And have had 2 replace 3 keyboards in the last year. Im not the one doing the spilling but I have 2 kids that are. I have now made it a rule never to eat or drink on or near the computer. Except mum of course...:o)

Hi Karen!
I normally don't take snacks, while sitting on my PC. If I'm feeling hungry I take my snacks first, before sitting on the computer. When I am on my PC, I wish to concentrate fully on my work, because if I start eating something or start sipping my tea/coffee, it will cause distraction and I can neither enjoy my snacks/tea nor my discussions.

Hi Karen!
I do not want my concentration to lapse, while mylotting, else I cannot properly draft my responses/comments. I am getting 'wiser' in the company of friends like you.........LOL!

I often drink or eat while I am using my computer. I usually drink coffee or soda, and I also eat snacks next to the computer. I am careful and I always make sure that my coffee mug isn't too close to my laptop just in case. I almost spilled some coffee on my ex's laptop once, he was pretty angry, and I have learned to be more careful
Many years ago when I had my first computer, I spilled some orange juice on the keyboard, but it didn't damage the computer.

Hi Porcospino...you are like me in that respect. Diet soda is something I especially indulge in throughout the day as I'm at the computer. I also try to be careful, and have been lucky so far : ) Thank you for responding.

Hello my friend PeacefulWmn9 Ji,
Well, I too take tea/snacks, but never spilled anything on my PC. Still I clean often as my hairs drop in and make the keys dirty. It should be shining. I would like that my lap-Top should look as if I bought yesterday (March, 2003).
May God bless You and have a great time.

It is known as 'VISHWA-KARMA DAY', WHERE WE CLEAN/MAINTAIN ALL TOOLS/INSTRUMENTS/DEVICES and worship them.

I make it a point to keep liquids way away from my computer! I am eating right now! I just set my bole aside about a foot and a half away from the laptop to type my response!

I used to know someone who always had to send their keyboard to the shop because it was always getting something sticky spilled on it!

Hello Smartone...I even eat some of my meals at the computer. I'm truly fortunate not to be heavy as a horse, but I really just don't get that hungry very often lol.

Yes, I snack and drink at the computer, although its not really wise. Its a bad habit... plus your brain begins to associate the computer with food so your body is going to want you to snack even if you are not hungry due to that association. If one has taken a course in psychology one would probably call it a form of classical conditioning. Even if I don't eat at the computer I do drink... and I don't believe I've ever spilled a drink on it, but crumbs do get into the keyboard.

Hi Trin...I would hate my brain to begin making that association, since I use the computer so much! But you have made an excellent point. I have heard the same theory applied to eating often if one watches a lot of TV.

Hi Hsofyan...you've been very lucky indeed. I've never actually spilled anything on mine, but it still gets crumbs and dust in it...in fact, I was amazed at just how much so!

Hi Karen.....and yes I picked up the bad habit of eating at my computer and drinking as well. I have never had any accidents, but my grandaughter spilled soda on my keyboard and did not tell me until it was too late and when I tried to use it the keys would not go down and if they did they would not come back up without a little help. Needless to say she was grounded from the computer and had to use her allowance she was given to buy a new keyboard. So now she and her friends do not drink soda while they are at the computer...lol

Hi Flutterby...ack! I no longer let my grandkiddos eat or drink at the pc either. Too many accidents. I think it is good when they have to save toward making amends when they've ruined a thing, too :)
