Do you have any problems drinking green tea?

I only started drinking green tea about a month ago, and around the same time getting bad wind. This is the only noticable to my diet, and I believe the green tea is causing the flatulence. Has any other myLotter experienced this? I have developed a taste for the green tea, which is supposed to be good for you, however I will have to stop drinking it due to the nasty effects it seems to be having on me.

Hi persona, it appears from the responses here that some people have reactions to green tea, albeit different symptoms.

I only started drinking green tea a few weeks ago, and was bothered with flatulence within an hour of drinking it. But I disregarded the effect as green tea is supposed to be so beneficial. But today I have really bad joint pains and am looking at green tea as the culprit as I can find no other cause.

I am not too keen on green tea and I do have an ‘allergy’ to different foods with similar symptoms like you are experiencing with the tea so just as well that green tea is not my...Cup of tea!

it is a taste you have to get used to, but I can't say I ever craved it. The benefits are supposed to be many. Thanks for responding.

I have not tried green tea..in fact I do not drink tea...I think it is an addiction...and kind of addiction is bad for health...green tea is said to be better than the normal tea..but in either case you become addicted to it...

Hey sumanadep, I wasn't addicted to green tea, and never would be. I was only drinking one, sometimes two cups a day. The same as I drink ONLY one cup of coffee a day. Thanks for your input.

I wish it didn't have any on, then I wouldn't have to give it up. I believe the benefits are good.

Green tea should support heavy dinner. If you don't eat heavy dinner, than don't drink Green tea. Green tea has as much caffeine as coffee and can cause upset stomach....

Hey pola, I didn't realize the caffine content was the same as in coffee. One reason I cut back on coffee was because ti was playing havoc with my digestive system, so it looks like the green tea has to go. Thanks for the advice.

I got the same problem plus the runs! It dose tend to keep you regular! But I was consuming a lot of it at work we sweat a lot doing construction outside, I drank regular home made sun tea and tried the green tea instead. Now if I only have a cup or two I don't have the problem! tdemex

Hey tdemax, I can understand what you're saying. However I am only drinking two ups a day, but maybe I have a delicate digestive system, so I think I'll have to quit. Thank you for responding.

I only recently began drinking green tea a short while ago when I first became aware of all it's benefits for our health. I quite like it as it has a very mild and gentle flavour. I have fortunately not experienced any adverse effects from drinking it however. I am not sure that it can have side effects but if it is really bothering you it might be an idea to see a doctor or even better, a nutritionist.

Thank you UK, there is some good advice there. Maybe a trip to a nutrionist would be a good idea. Thank you for taking time to respond.

I think I'm allergic to green tea... I forget what it does to me... I think it gave me a really bad headache. Anyway, I never have it anymore. There was this green tea ice cream that I was absolutely in love with, but stopped eating it because of that. The actual tea does the same thing to me, so...

Maybe I'm alergic to it also, but in a different way to you. I enjoy it, but I'm afraid I'll have to give it up. I've not tried the icecrean, and probably now won't.

I started drinking green tea a few weeks ago, and haven't noticed any unusual effects. I was skeptical of developing a taste for it, but I have to say it has grown on me. I don't think green tea is what is causing your gas, I just think it is coincidental.

hello jeg, the taste does grow on you, however other posters think it is more than a coincidence, and as coffee has much the same effect, I will be going without. However, I might consult a nutrionist to help me. Thanks for your response.

I absolutly love to brew my own green tea, it tastes great and it does not cause me any digestive problems. On the other hand I cannot drink the gree tea that is sold in stores in the bottle because as soon as I drink it I have to find a bathroom. It could be embarasing. So if you are buying it then try making your own and if you are making your own try buying it bottled, it could make a difference.

I think that is probably a more common problem than you know. It's true with things with lots of antioxidents like green tea. I do not like green tea so I don't have any problems with it...

Well I did try it years ago when everyone started raving about how good it was for you, but I didn't like the taste. However, recently, I gave it a try again, and it was ok, but I think I'll be giving it a wide berth in future. Thanks for your response.

Since this is an older post, I am not sure you will read mine. My rhuematologist put me on green tea. She wants me to drink 2 to 3 cups a day. I started drinking just plain hot green tea, and to me it leaves a pasty feeling in my mouth. So I have tried several flavored green teas. Much better and less pasty feeling. I am so used to drinking Lipton tea that switching took a bit for me to adjust to. As far as caffiene in your tea, if you look on the sides of boxes today they show you how much caffiene is in the different teas. 50% less and some teas like green even less than coffee. you can find this information anywhere on the internet. While I drink my water, juices, and even a soda here and there I usually wind down before bed with 1 to 3 cups of hot tea at night. Hope you got to figure out what was causing your problems with drinking the tea.
