Your Daily 90 Minutes Commute.

I`m sure the majority of you have a job that you work from a timetable of 9-5, and chances are it will take you about 90 minutes, or 1 hour and 30 minutes to drive there and back. This is how most of our day plays out, and we have to take over an hour and 30 minutes just to arrive to and from work. I feel this is ridiculous but this is how we live today, going from the suburbs to the downtown core.
I feel this is very unsustainable to our time, health, and our wallet, as we suffer through the traffic jams filled with smog, coming late to work and just putting a lot of stress on our life. Luckily for me, in the city i live, our city has started prioritizing huge mass transit projects, `Transit City`in which the whole city will be connected with light rail transit. For me, the average time to reach my destination is about over 30 minutes even at rush hour, as we have the third largest public subway system in North America, with over 2 million riders every day.
This city I`m talking about is Toronto, where we try to learn from other world-class cities of it`s kind, and try to make a better city everyday. If more American cities followed more sustainable cities where transit and the people are in priority, like Tokyo, where almost 90% of the people use public transit, there will be a much greener, happier and less polluted world. It would also mean reduced commute times, which translate into better productivity and a less stressful pace of life.
How long do you have to travel to get to work/school/mall/etc. and how do you rate your cities overall infrastructure on transportation?

I live about 10miles away from my workplace and the time it takes varies depending on the day of the week and which shift I'm doing. It has taken me 45mins to get there and an hour or more to get home but, on a Sunday early shift it will only take about 20mins to get there. Unfortunately, its not unusual to have to drive round the car parks for 10minutes or more to find a space on the late shift. Public transport is not running early enough to get me there for an early shift and it has stopped by the time I finish a late. Even if it was running I would have to get 2 separate buses as there is no direct route, so I have to drive. There are often roadworks in progress and the first slight flurry of snow seems to bring everything to a halt. A light rail system would be great but, its not going to happen here
