Which is a better media for storing data for a long period of time? Is it on a DVD-RW or an external Hard Disk with large capacity?

i ud stick to the answer what everybody is giving... but in practical situations it may vary... it depends on amt of data...if what u wanna store is very bulky then what others said is definitely the right choice.. if u wanna store just some movies then goto dvd..they work out cheap if u don ve any external disk right now...if u already have one then external disk is always the best choice...

I see. If I'm going to store just some movie files, the DVD is better. For very large files the external hard disk is the better choice.

I personally feel that storing data safely for a long period of time is on an external hard disk. Although most of the people don't have any sensitive and important data that requires to be stored for a long time and retrieve it, it is always better to save it on external hard disks. I have found that DVDs tend to become unusable even with a slight scratch than CDs. Most of the people have a large collection of music or movies they love and hate to lose them due to a scratch on CDs or DVDs. I find pen drives very handy when it comes to save data and moreover external hard disks work just like internal hard disks. There is no reading time which is present in CDs or DVDs. Even the data transfer is much faster when compared to CD/DVD Rom. We even save a lot when we use an external hard disk to save data and delete/format it when the data becomes obsolete. This cannot be done with CD or DVD. Even if we have a Rewritable media the disadvantages are many when compared to advantages.

External hard disk is always better to have.DVD-RW and cd's won't work after a long time. They may be tore off.So best choice is to have an external hard dish that too a better one.It

I also hear about the CD's fading away and making them unreadable after a long period of time. Has this ever happened to you?

Go for External Hard Disk. DVD-Rw is a good choice but you have more option with External Hard Disk. It might be a more expensive but it's good for long term. DVD tend to have scratch on the surface, regardless the method of storage.

Is it ok to get the Terrabyte Hard disks? They cost a lot but I think they are worth every penny specially if you're going to buy only once.
