I do not use it myself, but i purchased it last christmas for my boyfriend and his family. I would definately reccomend it to others, but only if they have a stable internet connection. It works wonderfully, it is cheap, and i really don't think you can beat it. The only problems we have ever run into stem directly from the type of internet connection he has at his house. He uses a wifi router and pings off of a neighbors signal (they know he is doing it and are fine with it) But sometimes due to bad weather or other unknown interferences he loses internet connection at his house, and well, this obviously causes the phone not to work.
Other than that, no problems.
One other issue that some people have is that not every state is listed in the states you can register your magic jack to when you set it up for your phone number. This doesn't mean you can't use magic jack, it just means that you have to register in a differnt state, which will give you a differnt area code than the area in which you live. Magic jack recognizes this issue, and allows anyone who has to have an "out of state number" to change their number once, with out a fee (otherwise they charge for this) once their state is on the list.

Regarding the loss of wireless connectivity, adding a simple parabolic reflector to the antenna helps stabilise the quality of the signal. If he's connected to an unsecured wireless network, wonder how many other neighbours are piggy-backing that too? Your boyfriend's neighbour should be aware that they will be responsible for any illegal activities through their internet connection, even if carried out by someone hijacking their connection... They should secure it asap...

they know he is using it and they are fine with it. They have it secured and have given him the password to access it, but thanks for the advice.
