I have an NIV Life Application bible that I use a lot. I study from a NASB Thompson Chain Reference. Keep up the study, it will give direction to where you want to go!!

I Like the King James Version. I believe it is the most accurate although some of the words have changed their meaning. It is not thought based but a literal translation. It also shows the extent of the meanings of certain words, not making them more palatable and acceptable to modern thought, such as using the word Sodomite instead of Homosexual, and fornication instead of living together. So therefore the idea of sinning is made more disgusting than it would be by reading the modern translations. Also in the case of the NIV, the ones preparing it had their own motives while the ones working on the King James version were more interesting in preserving the meaning of the original Hebrew and Greek as well as translating them accurately not by trying to alter it to give, for example, the Jews, a better reputation.
