Has anyone heard Muffy’s story? She was found by the RSPCA sleeping on an old piece of cardboard in someone’s yard in Melbourne, Australia. She was covered in fleas and her coat was badly matted. The Royal Society for the Protection of Cruelty to Animals attended to an anonymous call they received and were astonished to learn later that Muffy had been missing from her home some 1,700 kilometres away for nine long years! I have watched this on the news and saw through tear filled eyes the reunion with her owner 17-year-old Chloe Rushby who was aged just eight when her beloved pet disappeared in Queensland. Apparently Muffy is fine except for a skin infection she is still been treated for. Aside from one year at the house where she was found no one knows where and how she has been living for the first eight years or how she ended up so far away from home. It is a remarkable story indeed. I have a cat that I found as a mistreated stray and I often look at her and wish she could tell me her story. Do you have a prodigal pet story? I know of a lady who found her kitten after three months lost in bushes near her farm. Can you imagine the joy in finding your long lost animal? Has it happened to you? Do share...

well, I had a friendly cat that got out and didn't come home one night - we drove around in the middle of the night with our heads out the window of the car yelling his name. Now, he was pretty good about answering to his name so I guess, when he showed up the next morning, that someone had taken him in because he was very friendly thinking he was a stray and when he reacted the the crazy ladies driving around in the middle of the night, decided he wasn't.

Thank goodness you got him back, he sounds like he was a lovely cat. The way I see it, cats always come home, if they don't it is because they are unable to because someone has either taken them or they have been hurt or trapped somewhere. I don't let my cats outside for that reason, my cats are strictly indoor cats unless I take them out on a lead. Thanks for sharing your story ElicBxn!

I love reading stories like this.I can feel for both the pet and the pet owner.a missing pet is like losing a beloved family member.we love our pets so much and treat them like family.we used to have a dog.when we moved to a new house,he left the new house.turns out,he went back to our old house just by walking for several miles.then he went back to our new house.he probably misses the place where he was born and decided to visit.

That's amazing! I am so glad that he came back to your new place and you didn't lose him! I love happy endings like that. Whenever I see lost pet posters my heart goes out to the family who are looking for their animal...Thanks for the response my_name_is_coco!

Hello paula, the story of muffy is really incredible, and would be very hard to beat. I do have an interesting story, which I think is pretty amazing. My wife and I are housesitting in Bendigo, where we are taking care of two dogs. My wife feeds them, while I do the exercising, and ball throwing. This way we both have a connection with them, which I think is good. However, back to the story. On Wednesday night, Pen, my wife told, me she had lost one her bracelets in the garden that day. The next morning, after she had been looking for about ten minutes, she noticed, Jordie, a female Labrador looking at her. Jordie, then looked down at her feet, the whole time wagging her teil excitedly. On closer inspection, at her feet was the bracelet Pen was looking for. Amazing stuff. We should never underestimate our pets.

I love hearing this stories! You are quite right, pets should never be underestimated, they are usually a lot smarter than what we give them credit for. People laugh at the way I behave with my animals but I swear that one of my cats tries really hard to 'talk' to me sometimes; crazy as it sounds! Glad Pen found her bracelet, thanks to Jordie. Great response mipen, thanks!

The story I've heard is different. There was this woman who used to live in my city, but she lived somewhere else before. She has this dog, but the dog didn't live with her. She'd just feed it and play with it a lot, but people came to think of it as her dog. She uised to commute to NY, I'm in NJ, for work. The dog used to follow her to the bus station. Apparently one day, it got on the bus and no one saw that dog for live five years. Then one day, it came back and started to attack people and it was found out the dog had rabbies and had to be put to sleep. No, I wouldn't feel joyful to find a pet after so much time has passed. I would know they had been abused and I would feel awful, because as the owner it would be my fault.

I guess that is the less joyful end to such a reunion but Muffy is fine and her owner and her family are overjoyed to have her back and spoil her as much as possible, now that is a happy ending! It would not be nice to think that a pet may have been abused, we suspect one of my cats which I adopted as a stray was abused because she appeared in bad condition and very traumatised when she came to us; I feel very glad that I have been able to change her life to that of a spoiled kitty. Thanks for responding smartie0317 I appreciate it!
