Why is no one talking about fixing the healthcare problems?

To me, one of the most frusrating parts of this whole debate is the fact that more people seem willing to simply trade one set of horror stories for another.
Anytime someone cite's some government system, we are given examples of the flaws in that system... yet the proponents don't seem to care how horrible it is. They still insist it's "better".
What is better, getting raped or sexually attacked? What is worse, getting murdered or purposely killed? What is worse, getting run through by a sword, or getting stabbed by one?
6 of one, Half Dozen of the other is the way the saying goes... and that is exactly what the entire debate has been reduced to.
Why don't we try something really wild here...
Why don't we simply identify the real problems with our health care system. Identify what really works well. Then come up with Actual Solutions to the problems we have identified... then work those solutions.
You see, this is what people who are truly interested in fixing something do. It is what people who truly want actual solutions do.
What we are doing now is what people who don't give a crap about fixing the problems to. In other words.. What we are doing now is what politicians do.
Keep it up, and then we can celebrate our deaths, but we died with Universal Health Care, so we're happy.

I know the doctors want something better for their patients. They don't want insurance companies to deny medications, have rules that say how long a patient can remain in the hospital, or butt into the care they are given.
I think some kind of health reform is in order, but what do politicians (other than the ones who are doctors) know about health?
