Has anyone reading this attended a Job Corps personally? How about having a close friend/family member who has? What was your overall experience? Were you a residential or nonresidential student? Did you attend academics only, vocational studies only, or both? Did you like or hate it? Do you feel that you are a better person since having attended? Did you notice a gap in how you were treated in the "academics/vocational" areas vs. dorm life? How would you rate your experience.. okay, good, great, excellent, bad, poor, or horrible?

My sister attended Job Corps and loved it. She attended in the late sixties after she graduated from high school. She was a resident at a center is Omaha, NE. She studied Nursing Assistance/Aid. She was offered LPN studies afterwards but did not accept; she came home instead and brought her pregnant roomy with her. She did work in a hospital some time afterwards but ended up becoming a hair- dresser. She always looked back on her experiences with fondness. I think this was the most positive thing she did with her life. My daughter also went to Job Corps and loved it. She joined in her senior year of high school and got her GED (there was no HSD program at her center at that time). She got her driver's license, and completed two trades (materiel handling and carpentry). This was a very positive experience for her too and opened many doors for her. She got her present job through the Corps. Since she graduated, she went to college twice and graduated. It was a very good experience for her, and it was a good experience for my sister. My sister also did a little college and completed a technical course following her stay in Job Corps. I would recommend Job Corps, it can be a very positive experience if you take advantage of what it has to offer; the key is you-you get out what you put in.
