hi,
I have 8 g.b. Transcend Pen drive. Recently i Copied bulk files to my pen drive while copying the pen drive get blocked and displayed a error called "Disk is Write Protected". I try to format my drive but it also showing same error message, i scanned with best antivirus but my pen drive is not affected by antivirus.
Later i found an option to format the pen drive in Linux operating system. I found this is the best option for formatting a common fat system. I need a help that any tool which is available to format a pen drive in a Linux style from XP os.

Some pen drive has a switch to toggle write protect, sometimes it is position inconspicuously so check very thoroughly. if you can't really find one, try to access it in a different unit, I have encountered a virus before that disable write in pen/flash/usb drive. The virus is in the PC itself an not in the pen drive. The symptoms that the PC is infected are in explorer one cannot display hidden files even in an administrative account and the missing Run... in the start menu. Do a system scan if possible in boot prior to loading of window. I have not experience yet formatting a media in linux that can be access by a PC.
