Can any explain to me why Tom DeLay isn't in jail?

ABC announced todady that former republican leader Tom DeLay will be on Dancing with the Stars. I had to laugh when my wife told me this because last time I checked the was still under indictment, and was awaiting trial. DeLay is a perfect example of why powerful people in Washington usually end up powerful people in jail. DeLay sent lists to corporations of republican candidates they should donate to so they could get a seat at the writting of the infamous Cheney energy bill, he also had many dealings with his good friend Jack Abramhoff. But, probably best example of his arrogence was when he called up a division of the department of homeland security to track an aircraft that was leaving his state with Democratic representatives. So why don't you call up the department of homeland security tonight, and tell them that they should track a plane, and see how long it takes for men in black suites to show up at your door.

The problem is they don't usually end up the powerful people in jail. They usually get away it with. Some do get busted and go to jail....but the mass majority have nothing happen to them. And not just the republicans either. I am as usual talking about the corruption and dirty deals both sides do AND get away with it.

LIL, you are 100% correct, in this case DeLay's top two aides went to jail for him, and I am sure he is very happy with them taking the fall. I just can't believe that congress wouldn't even investigate him, that really upset Joe Lieberman.

If they investigate him than they have to investigate everyone. So they are protecting him to protect themselves.

I do agree with your point though, I would also include others from both sides of the aisle in the question though.. ok, not the exact question since the rest of the list isn't invited on Dancing with the Stars.. but the general idea.

I don't even know if he is still under indictment, it is hard to find any information on this, and he was charged in Texas, which mean he will never see justice. I know that there are many people in office that should be in jail, but this is one of the people that should be the poster boy for reforming politics, and now he will be on TV, when he should be in a jail cell. I wonder how his former aides that are in jail feel right now?

I don't know, I don't care about Tom but, I think they should change the name to Dancing with Politicans since they already had Jerry and Tom. Hey, they could have had them on at the same time and be "partners" and be Tom and Jerry LOL1 person likes this

What I'd like to see is Reid, Pelosi, Frank, and Wrangle doing a can-can in orange jumpsuits, before going off to federal prison, and of course, Rahm Emmanuel will be doing his ballerina routine in a pink tutu. The show would have to be renamed of course, to Dancing with the Disgraced Politicians. *sigh*.

thegreatdebater, How's your buddy John Edwards doing nowadays? Let's see first he becomes a trial lawyer and sues doctors for millions for not doing C-Sections on women who gave birth to babies with cerebal palsey. After which,doctors started doing 4 times as many C-Sections with NO DROP IN Cerebal palsey.They he cheats on his wife who has CANCER. The woman has his child and he is being investigated for using campain funds to cover it up even though he has hundreds of millions of dollars.THIS GUY COULD HAVE BEEN OUR PRES!!!!!!! WHAT A DISCRACE.

I am not a big Edwards fan, and I think he is getting exactly what he deserves (actually he deserves his a$$ kicked for what he did to his wife, but that is just me). You are correct that he is a disgrace (not DISCRACE), but I do have the ability to call out a member of my own party for what they have done. DO YOU????
