DNA Evidence Can Be Fabricated?

According to a recent article, it is found that scientists in Israel have demonstrated that DNA evidence can be fabricated, so that blood and saliva taken from one person can appear to be from someone else instead. They outlined their disturbing discovery in the journal Forensic Science International: Genetics. Just when we thought that forensic science took a big leap forward with the discovery of DNA, forensic fingerprinting and now this. I can understand about loopholes and shortcomings but this one is certainly unexpected for me. This discovery is indeed an eye opener for me and I hope that it will be one for the authorities who are directly involved. I just cannot imagine if the person on the job could actually abuse their position and put the wrong person behind bars. I feel my concern here is not a paranoia but one of genuine caution and prep. And I just hope that this will not become an inadmissible proof in the courts, in the future. What do you think? Fabrication is the work of human beings. The DNA testing itself is very reliable. All that needed to be done is to make sure they hire trustworthy people.

UmiNoor, Let's not forget that the people working in the CSI are also human and as such I hope that the authorities will come up with protocols that will prevent such manipulations from happening. Scary, isn't it? I just hope that such a manipulation will never happen and that innocent people be implicated or accused wrongly. Have a nice day.

I guess there's always been the possibility that samples could be swapped or contaminated, but but deliberately falsified? Up until today I would have said that it was something that a Soap Opera writer might have come up with!
