(Sigh) Oh, c'mon jugs... EVERYone knows that there is a small furry creature living in the bottom of every washing machine in the world. These creatures are the servants of the multipedded sock monster and their mission in life is solely to procure as many socks as possible for his use. It is a particular quirk of the sock monster that he flatly refuses to wear any matching socks - hence, they are only ever allowed to gather one from each pair. In the event that the furry collector creatures stuff up and grab the pair, they are washed in an industrial washing machine and then hung from the Great Washingline by their unmentionables & are so humiliated that they can never resume their careers back in the bottom of the machine You can make sock puppets. If you have loads you could stage a major production... Run a drawstring through the top to make little bags for precious collections of acorns or pretty stones.... Sew them all together in a giant patchwork blanket.... or...or.... Heck, just wear odd socks !!

Nothing wrong with that! I've been know to wear odd socks! Especially when I haven't done the laundry! I like your puppet idea. My daughter can glue eyes on them and some yarn for hair.

Yes! What I do is continually rewash socks with no match. Once they come out of the dryer, if they have no match, they go back into the laundry basket to go through the process yet again. Kinda silly... but I always have hopes that one day, all my socks will end up with matches.

Mystery of the lost socks!!!! Where do they all go???? Most I think go down the washing machine drain. I did have one that was heading that way and got caught in my washing machine pump. Yes, it was so much fun when the pump locked up and the water would not drain out. It was a great learning experience. I fixed it all by myself.

I think this is a never ending mistery. In our house I've noticed that I'll find socks everywhere! Behind the couch, under beds, in back corners of the basement. So I know that doesn't help with the non-matching problem. Plus my husband has told me that he doesn't exactly match his socks to wear them. Same size and thickness is match enough for him. Basically, I gave up trying to match the families socks a long time ago. I have a basket on top of my dryer and when the socks come out they go into that basket. We all wear basically the same size, so it's fend for yourself when it comes to socks. Since my daughter and I like the shorter socks and all the boys prefer the longer ones I did split those two types between two baskets.

Eventually I find the mate. There are only two of us living at home now so the misplaced or lost socks don't happen very often. I have found socks between the washer and dryer and on the side of the dryer. Must have slipped off the top of the dryer. I do use old socks to clean the blinds even though we have wooden blinds now. The older ones would cut up my hands so socks prevented that from happening.

we recycle are old socks and made it into rags. So that even it is old it will still be useful. I got so many old socks, which i sometimes compare my feet from before to my present. My feet grow I could it believe that lame.

Hello jugsjugs. As to me, I threw away the worn one, but keep the good one and find another good one to match it, which is the same color and style. This way I am not wasting money. hehehe.

I do the same too. I keep all the single socks in one bag and take them out to see if any of them match when i do the laundry again. Sometimes I find the other lost sock again and I would have a pair again.

They get recycled somehow... Sometimes used for cleaning.. sometimes the smaller bobby socks are cut to have the feet removed and the "leg" bit saved for use in the winter as a leg warmer or wrist warmer. Sometimes I keep them around for use when work/chores have to be done on horribly muddy days to be worn then so that the ones with mates stay good. When I owned a car, I'd often keep a couple of pairs of mismatched socks in the trunk during the winter in case we became stranded and had to be without heat - they could be worn on either the hands or feet then.

I buy a package of socks that are all white and the same style. If one of my sock get a hole and the other does not I keep it so if one of the other gets a hole I still have a pair of sock. When I have to buy new socks and can not get the same style than I will trash the odd sock because by then it is probably worn alot anyway.

It is very mysterious! I also have many odd socks! I have found some in random places, and I don't know how they got there. With my daughter's socks, sometimes I'll find one dirty one still inside her sneaker. Not long ago, my washing machine stopped working. Luckily it was still under warranty, so I called the repair person. When he took the hose out, guess what he found!!! Several socks! Some of the mystery was solved! Some socks were going to the side of the washing machine basket thingy and going out with the water. They got wadded up in the house, until even the water couldn't go through and the machine stopped working. But I still have some odd socks left, and I've had them for years. I can't throw them out, as I still hope the other one will appear. LOL!

I can't stand having socks with no match! I keep cycling them through the wash until I am done with all the wash for the week. If I don't come across the match, in the trash it goes. This way they don't overtake the laundry room!
