I use a toothpick when something gets stuck on my teeth. I've never heard of using a toothpick to be unhealthy but I don't use it that much anyways. Just in emergencies where food gets stuck in places where it can't be reached

hi jane. i know it is not good for our teeth to always use toothpicks. it is proven that toothpicks can widen the gap of our teeth between tooth, i don't know that you call that or it's medical or dental description. dentists advise is to use dental floss rather than toothpicks. i will accept though that i sometimes use toothpicks, but only when tooth-brushing is not possible, like when you have eaten your meal at restaurants, etc.

I don't use toothpicks after eating because of something that I saw happen to a friend once. He was using a toothpick and somebody dropped a book and it startled him, and so his head jerked and he stabbed his gums with the toothpick
. It bled and so that is part of the reason that I don't use toothpicks. I just floss, my boyfriend has a metal pick like the one that dentists use that he uses carefully in the bathroom, but I don't like using it and so I just floss.

Hi Jane
since myLot has been down I am now playing catchup with discussions. Now and then yes I do use a toothpick after eating, there is no harm in it as long as you are careful how you use it but the best way is to clean your teeth if you have something lodged in between the teeth or floss...it gets rid of whatever is there easily...LoLo
