Unhappy Endings...

There are some movies and shows that I see that I would so love to change the endings on. Titanic is one of them…I love the movie and it was really well made but I’d definitely have changed the part where Jack died. I would have him and her running off together to have a wonderful life…not him dying at sea and her having to wait till she dies, old and alone, before she can see him again.
Another one I’d change is the Roseanne series…I like the series and just watched all eight seasons on YouTube but I really hate the ending and I always skip the last episode. In the very last episode, it shows that she’s writing a book about her life and that Dan actually died in like the second season, way back when Becky and Darlene were still young and she just dreamed up all the rest. All the stuff while the kids are growing up and everything. Dan is a major character in the show and he’s kind of the guy some women dream of meeting, a down to earth, all around good guy (not too many of those left), and here they tell you at the end that he was killed off way back at the beginning. I think if it was me, I’d leave the last episode at the one where Darlene has the baby and let that be the season ender.
I guess that’s why I’m not a film or series writer, I always want happy endings.
Is there a show or movie that you don’t like the ending to? How would you change it if it was up to you? Do you think you would make a good film or series writer?

You like happy endings and I rather have more sad endings.I don't watch a film where I can sense there will be an ending I don't like, It has been a long while since I felt the urge to change the ending of a film. There are so many " romantic comedies" out there and I refuse to see them. I rather see a tragic love story.

I never cared much for sad endings either. Depending on the story, there are endings that I would love to change, such as many of the Shakespearian tradegies. That was probably why I never liked them, aside that they were required reading in high school. At the same time, especially if it is based on a true story, the only way to actually change that would be to change history.

I don't think that I would want to do anything in the t.v. business. I've seen Titanic and I've watched Roseanne before, used to like the show. I agree, that the last episode isn't the best. I think I used to enjoy it, but after awhile it's just sad and leaves a lot to be asked, y'know. Then again, I wonder, did Dan really build that area for her in the basement? It's been awhile since I've seen the show, but I think they explained that in later seasons. I wonder how Roseanne felt about that, and how Dan felt about it as well...

Oh yes, I didn't like that they kept switching Becky's. Jackie was really an odd character, independent at first like you said and then a real nut job. I think maybe they wanted it to be that way, especially if they knew that they were going to have that surprise twist at the end. It only seems fit that her sister would portray her like that, though I didn't really like that she was writing all that. Darlene finally settling down was nice, I did like that, but at the same time it was odd. She was a tomboy for so long.

I love unexpected endings even if they're sad. One part of the ending in Inglorious basterds made me a little sad, I loved that character but I would leave the story the way it is.

I love watching the Roseanne Show..But to be honest I have never watched all the episodes and haven't watched the ending. Sad though..that they would make the ending like that...I know several movies I would love to change the ending to and one is the movie Butterfly Effect. Even though it does have it to where you can watch alternate endings(on some DVD's) On both he never gets the girl..So I would like to change that..to he gets the girl..I guess I am just a roamntic at heart and like to see happy endings.

I watched Roseanne for the first couple of years it was on. Then my parents wouldn't let me because it became more off color (I was too young to watch that then, I'll give them that). But I remember hearing about how it ended. That wouldn't have made me happy either. I never watched The Golden Girls until I was in my twenties and they were in reruns (yep, they can definitely do off color on that show), but I love the show. I would not have had Dorothy get married and go off. I would have just had them continuing living in that home, but insinuate that Dorothy was close to being engaged. I like to picture everyone together when shows end.
I'd also change the ending of the TV show, Angel. I HATED that they killed of Cordelia. That was in the middle of the very last season, even if she hadn't been on the show that year. But I didn't like how they went with that storyline.
As for movies...My Best Friend's Wedding...I did not want to sit through that movie just to see Julia Roberts not get the guy.

I think most people like happy ending. There are two movies that have sad ending and it really impresses me. One is Brave Heart and the other is the City of Angels. They are both great movies in my opinion. But I cry for it because of the sad ending. Perhaps you watched these two movies and you shall understand my feelings. Of course I hope they will have a happy ending. But perhaps the director thinks the movie will be much more impressive if the ending is bad.
I love China

I do not think I would make a good writer. I always
want things to work out. I do not like sad endings.
I wanted the Xfiles couple to be together. I have
stopped watching movies and shows because they were
not going the way I wanted them to.
Have a great day.

Yes Titanic was rather sad, but in a way, I think it was not too bad. After all, Rose did get married and have kids, and she looked back at her past with happy and joyful memories. Unfortunately in real life, the Titanic did sink, and many people did die, therefore I think the end was quite realistic. I don't mind sad endings as sometimes they are the most powerful to watch.

Hi twoey...I never really watched the Roseanne series but I think it's terrible that the series ended on such a low note. I tend to choose movies that I know will have a happy ending. There are so many instances in life where the ending is not happy and when I watch something I want to be entertained and to leave my problems aside for the moment. I want something to be happy and fun. I don't think I'd make a good film or series writer but I think that more series have to think about entertainment instead of reality.

I have always wanted to be a writer sice I was a kid. I am not sure if I would be a good one or not. but I do perfer the happy ending more than the tradic on. I am sure there are some movies or shows that I do not like the ending to but I can't think of any now.

I wouldn't change the end of Titanic - after all, few men survived it and as a steerage class passenger he'd've never made it.
Wasn't a fan of Roseanne, did kind of like the "Gilligan's" episode. I might want to change the end of St. Elsewhere - on the other hand, maybe not....

I can't think of a show or movie that I didn't like the ending to. I did see "The Titanic" and it did have a sad ending, although I thought it was a good movie overall. Most of the movies I've seen usually have happy endings, though. I'm not sure if I would make a good film or series writer, myself. It wouldn' t hurt to try it, though. I didn't know how much I liked to write until I joined mylot so you never know. Kathy.
