Ok, yes, Obama is the Commander-in-Chief, and the CIA, and DoD are in the Executive Branch, so I'm not questioning his Constitutional Authority here.. in fact, I'm backing it. But I do have a couple of concerns here. The CIA, DoD and all the other departments of the Executive Branch are also regulated by the Legislative Branch of the federal government. It is the part of the checks and balances that made it possible for Congress to learn about things going on at GITMO, as well as other programs. However, Congress isn't privvy to a lot of the running and operations of the White House staff themselves. This limits the very checks and ballances the left complained about throughout the Bush administration. Another concern is, this put the White House in the detention business. Not a good precendence to start.

Somebody dropped the ball along the way with the GITMO interrogations, and now no one wants to own up. Congress should have been on top of it from the very beginning, overseeing everything. Their new guidelines should not be retroactive. If they want to start calling the shots now that they disagree with what was done in the past, they should look forward and not backward, and JUST DO THEIR JOBS.

Yup, Congress dropped that ball, now there are too many people on both sides of the aisle who are running defense. The sad thing is, because of all the "party uber alles" politicking, we'll never really know if crimes were committed or not.

My understanding is that no crimes were committed because there were no clear cut guidelines for interrogating terrorists at that time. It wasn't covered by the Geneva Convention because the terrorists were not part of an organized militia in a war zone. All I know is they thwarted other terrorist attacks that were in the works for other US cities, so I'm glad whatever they did worked. I hope things are resolved in such a way the CIA isn't hindered in its job.

Leon Panetta is livid over these investigations into the CIA.Morale is still very low after that Pelosi fiasco. These people risk their lives to defend us. If they threaten to kill the families of the leaders of terrorist leaders I'm all for it. Keep in mind their goal in life is to kill us. If it means strapping a bomb to a 10 year old retarded child, they will do it. Do you think they won't torture us? They laugh at us because we are weak and unwilling to do what is necessary to defeat them.
