I remember in school we were cautioned against anti-bacterial soap as it kills the good bacteria that protects against infections - its lost and they can cause antibiotic resistance.. And help breed super bugs. I just read this surprising article on AC about how it can disrupt hormone activitites.
What do you think of these? I noticed that they along with news of the swine flu it has shown up at cash registers at most stores - including the airport - at the airport visiting relatives - they asked if I needed any like they used to ask if i needed a magazine or water. Yet it would have no effect against the swine flu as its a virus - that is if the main ingredient is Triclosen.

What about the ones people carry around? And what do you think about the idea that it kills the good bacteria too? And breeds super germs - all dat stuff from my discussion starter?

Well some people that carry them around do it for a good reason.. I have an aunt who is diabetic and low immune system, so she carries them around to wipe off grocery store handles and things that many people touch, that no one washes. I personally wouldnt carry them around, and i'm not sure why they would cause a superbug, if its killing both good and bad bacteria, then wouldnt that mean both would have a chance to grow back?

No they don't grow back, and if you use it enough the bugs get used to it and it no longer has an effect. It changes the bugs out there in effect. They do have alchol wipes that help and don't do any harm. In effect they compromise your immune system, because one, you no longer have the good bacteria that is protecting you from infections and the bugs get immune over time to antibacterial products/antibiotics.
Its said that soap and water is just as effective and doesn't have any of the bad side effects.

th important thing is just to WASH your hands...it doens't have to be with a special "anti-bacterial" soap or what not. You are right though, using this over and over all the time can actually keep our immune systems from being able to develop and build anti-bodies that could possibly keep us from becoming sick later in life!
Hand sanitier has it's place, such as in situations wehre there is no clean, running water to wash up in, as it will rid us of some harmful bateria, but we shouldn't rely upon it to keep us clena and healthy
