You may be right, I may be crazy

But I just might be the lunatic you're looking for..... Here's the thing. I had a friend tell me that if you know you're crazy that you aren't really. Another friend said that it just made you functionally insane. My question to you all (and the reason this is under Friend) is do crazy folks attract other crazy folks? Or do the sane seek out the insane? Are your friends like you, and are you sane or crazy? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hxNOCl7S7lU I know many of my really good MyLot pals are a great trip into the crazy side of life... even the sane ones. (hey! I spelled 'functionally' right. It must be a good day)

Ihave little choice but to bring up one of my favourite quotes of them all. I've shared it on here before, but it's so appropriate right now..... "You laugh at me because I'm different. I laugh at YOU because you're all the same!" And then there's another favourite quote of mine by a man named Frank Moore Colby and it too is approriate I reckon: "A lopsided man runs fastest up the little sidehills of success!" I think like does attract like, even in societal circles, so it's inevitable that similar minded people will be drawn together. If crazy is one of the defining factors, then so be it! Anyone seen my meds???

Hmmm, hard to define, TL. I'm sane with a REEEEEEEEEEEEEALLY good sense of humor. How's that? I just recently heard something about I.Q.'s but that just defines retarded vs. genius. A lot of genius' are labeled insane. My I.Q. tested at the genius level soooooooo..... The way I look at life, if you're not at least a little bit insane, you're a rock. I tend to navigate towards like-minded people. It's easier to communicate with them. My sons are direct opposites of each other, yet they are both very much my sons. (Sorry, kids!!!!!) One of them is the serious side of me and the other is the, uhh, well, he's the not-quite-normal side of me. If I had to spend too much time with either one, though, I'd go completely insane and not necessarily in a good way! My husband and I are very much alike yet complete opposites all rolled up in one so I'd have to say that I'm attracted to people with both opposite AND identical attributes. Makes them easy to get along with yet interesting enough to be fun to hang around for an extended period of time. Does all this make sense or am I a basket case?

I'm SOOO glad my kids are grown and fending for themselves! Not only was dinner time almost comic, but just about every aspect of their lives has been, uhh, interesting. My serious fella is a total slob, except for personal grooming; he's almost a fanatic about being clean. The goofball loves to clean and rearrange furniture, yet he often has to be reminded to clean himself up. I pity the females they marry, if they ever do. Believe it or not, I actually WANT grandchildren! Maybe it's because I've had time to recover from my sons and feel the need for revenge. It's every grandparent's God given right to spoil their grandchildren rotten, fill them up with sugar, then hand them back to their parents.

LOL It makes GREAT sense..... I have kids like yours. I called them Rice and Noodle when they were young because one liked one but hated the other, and the other kid was the oppisite. Dinner time was a blast.

I think it's true that both opposites and similars attract and it leads to balance in the end. I have friends both offline and on that are the same and the complete opposite of how I am. As long as it's all fun and never a task keeping up with them then it's the variety that is the spice of life! Hope life is being good to you Chimes

I am living so life must be treating better then some. It's alright. How are things on your side of the screen? I'll agree with the balance of friends...I think that's how we stay sane but not too much so.

I think if you're not a little "crazy", you're boring. All my friends are some degree of crazy. Those who aren't don't seem to be very adventurous and even their conversations are lacking sparkle.

Hello my friend This is funny, I always ask myself why do I seem to attract all the wrong kind of people into my life, I attract insane individuals not insane to the point that they need to be in a padded cell, just idiotic I would say, I honestly believe it is hard to attract people that are just like you, maybe we attract opposite people because in a way they need us to help them to see things differently hmmmm, that makes sense right? I do tend to have an impact on most of the peoples life I have touched so now that I am thinking/writing this I believe I had a revelation Thanks my friend because of you I now know why I attract weird people in my life lol

Um... Your welcome. My mother has had the gift of weirdo attraction for years. We couldn't even go out to eat with out her striking up a conversation with people who kept too many animals, talked to themselves and answered back, or voted for the other guy. *sigh* She even brought some of them home. I like touching the lives of others... it makes life worth living.... glad you have found a reason to enjoy the nuts that come around.

I agree with what your friends says…if you know that you are insane then of course all your faculties are not gone yet. Of course there’s a huge difference between being a complete lunatic and fashionable insane and then the definition of insane changes from person to person. Many people do many things which seems abnormal but they themselves think its ‘cool’

I think your first friend is right, crazy people.. truely crazy not just touched.. people do not know they are crazy!! I tend to stay away from crazy people.. i dont like attention, and those people seem to attract a lot of attention weather they want to or not! I may be a little eccentric but i'm by no means CRAZY!lol.

LOLOL that is the old Catch 22 from military. If you know you are, then you aren't and can't get out using crazy as a reason. I LOVE "crazy" people. Fun people. I have always said that in our world today the only sane people are the crazies!! Good for you (and spelling functionally correctly!!).

It could be either or. I am probably functionally insane - meaning that on the surface I don't appear so, BUT I seem to attract people who are unstable. I don't know if that's because I just naturally try to take care of people but... My friends are all different. I love my friends but sometimes all that some of them have in common is me for a friend. That oughta tell you something. Maybe I'm the odd one, I dunno.

Hello my friend TLChimes Ji, It reminds me some old sayings, 'A BLIND PERSON WILL SEE EVERYTHING DARK, BUT WILL HAVE SENSE OF EXPERIENCING ABNORMALLY STRANGE, WHICH EYED PERSON CAN NEVER'. Also 'A MAD PERSON ALWAYS THINKS ALL ARE MAD'. It is not necessary ythat two friends or more friends have same and identical likings and deslikings. They vary in muli-varieties. May God bless You an dhave a great time.

I believe that we're all crazy in our ways. I also think crazy people seem to attract other crazy people. sooner or later we all are in that same group of insanity sufferers. Do you think there is a sure fire way to keep the insanity from creeping into your life?

5 months ago...I didn't even know 1/2 of ya even existed...Wasn't till I signed up over at the other place when everyone started shooting me friend requests or I was asking instead. Now...today....I'm very happy to have met the people I have and slowly forming lasting friendships...are y'all crazy? well yeah..in your own way..Am I? I often wondered that myself. Over the last few months, I've come to understand myself better through my new friendships and it dawned on me that I'm not the only one with scrambled brains. I actually feel at home here..where I truly belong.

I'm tell ya, Billy Joel speaks to me, for me..., about me... And this is probably MY song, well, one of them any way - I think a bunch he did back in the 80's really nailed me. I've always said I was crazy, I do tend to accept people that admit to their own craziness more quickly than others... Of course, there are those that their craziness scare me, but I haven't met one of those here at the lot... well, that haven't been since deleted anyway...

Funny, weird and a great sense of humor definitely go a long way in friendship for me. I have lots of 'insane' friends and we can do just about anything; from singing together, right up to being serious and having deep-heart topics and many more. The crazy life is the kind of life I like..

i think some sane people want some excitement so they seek out crazy people and i do believe if you know your nuts then your more sane than most the people that swear they are sane.. everyone i know that should just be locked up in the loony bin swear to god they are the most balanced people and then say that people that go to shrinks are nuts.. meanwhile im like well at least im acknowledging and fixing mine where you have no clue your nuts lol

Hi TLChimes, My mum taught me that if I thought I was insane I wasn't. I used that to my advantage later in life when psychiatrists though I might be insane and I told them I wasn't because I knew it was all me lol! I still live by that rule now actually which is how I know I am actually sane :) The people I have made friends with all have a degree of insanity with them in the sense that they have been changed by their challenges and have coping mechanisms similar to mine. If I come across someone who hasn't been changed by challenges then I don't tend to connect with them at all because I find them uninteresting. I don't know if I can class those people as insane, but if they are it definitely helps them become friends with me lol! I also have a strange sense of humour a lot of the time so perhaps if someone wasn't insane before they met me, they will be afterwards lol! Nice discussion :) Dranz PS: I also find that insanity is far easier to locate on-line which is why I like it here so much ~ Grins at mylot but says nothing LOL ~
