Do you consider yourself to be your brother's keeper?

This question goes back to the story of Cain and Abel in the Biblical book of Genesis. Cain kills his brother Abel and later when God asks him where his brother is, Cain answers, "I know not: Am I my brother's keeper"? Down through history the question has been asked and millions have answered in the affirmative. The idea that we are meant to care for each other comes to the forefront every time we hear of the heroic effort of someone in helping save the life of another, or when thousands turn out to search for a missing child. What are your thoughts?

Yes I believe we are our brother's keepers, that we see it in many ways as you said when a town turns out to look for a lost child, or we risk our lives to save that person in a burning house or car. I believe that is what we are put here on earth for to care for one another. But as time passes I am afraid that everyone is now out for them selves and don't understand that we still need to be there for our neighbor or family member that needs help. Things have gotten so bad with the economy that we only think of making sure we are taken care of and the rest can fend for themselves. This is the time when we should be there to make sure the person next door has enough to eat or to watch out for the small child we see out on the street. Too many have decided that they are the only one that counts in the world today, and they have given up on the idea of helping others. I try to buy a few extra groceries each time I go shopping at the first of the month and take them to the food pantry or help to fill the barrel at the grocery store they have there because see one day it might be me that has to go to the food pantry to seek groceries for my children. we have lost sight of what it means to be our brother's keeper and we need to get back to what is real and important in life. Tos top and think what if that was me, because today it could be you tomorrow.

Hi bdugas, Thank you for such a great response. I found myself nodding in agreement as I read each sentence. Lets hope that people get back to seeing the importance of taking care of each others. Maybe there are more than we realize who think that way today. Blessings friend.

I am my brother's keeper and anyone else if needed. It can sometimes be a fine line between keeping and interfering. We must always be aware of that.

Hello, That Cain had committed fratricide is a message for us that we do not repeat that action. Be it my own brother or some body else's first and foremost duty of mine becomes to save or protect his/her. We are not supposed to commit sin of that sort and on the day of judgement we would be answerable. But sadly things are not happening this way. Rather we have turned worst than Cain. who will explain and who will listen for most of us have already been bonded to Lucifer and there is no looking back. This is the time we really did something solid to save mankind.

Hi rajib, Thank you for your opinion and I agree we are meant to save life, not destroy it. Blessings.
