Is he a "real" dog?

A true dog now - He is licensed and a "real" dog as far as the city is concerned now.

Now as far as the city I live in Buster is officially a real dog as he got his shots and license today (Thursday). I got a ticket for his howling a couple weeks ago and HAVE to appear in court for the ticket. It is not just a mailable fine but a mandatory court hearing. Seeing as he has never had shots nor licensed since I got him nearly 5 years ago I figured with this ticket looming I had better license him. He did very well getting distemper and rabie shots and nails trimmed and a full check over as well. Here's a photo of his tags on his collar. He isn't used to the clanging sound nor am I. There's a grand worth of work to be done but where do I get that kind of cash? Anyhow, is your pet licensed in your city? HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB!!~

He's adorable. And he's a real dog in my book since he isn't one of those little yappy ankly bitey things (ducking missiles thrown by small dog lovers)... Yep, we have to license our dogs here...

Or short people! Sorry to hear you had to get your dog legalized. I think that is the biggest racket the county's and city's have. Seriously, I can see the shots if it's an outside dog especially. But, I'm not sure I agree with the license and having to pay for shots that the government requires.

Our dog goes to the vet as needed, he gets better health care than I do it seems. hahaha When we got him he only had his first baby shots and we had to get those completed. He got that all taken care of and has had to go a few times because he has torn dew claws off and he has also had a few seizures. He goes now once a year to get his shots and once a month we give him his heartworm medicine and his stuff to keep off fleas, ticks and mosquitoes. As for his city tag, no. I never have sent that in to get his tag for that but I guess next year I might. It is cheap to get the city tag but I guess I just find it hard to write a check to mail in for such a small amount. hahaha I find that sad that you were given a ticket for him howling, he is just doing what does do at times.

The gist of the ticket goes like this, the night we had that tornado I had left him out back while I ventured out and to get my wife. The neighbors told me he howled nonstop for about 3 hours. So I don't hold it against anyone calling the police on the noise. I would have done the same if I heard a neighbors dpog doing this at 9 p.m. He is healthy except he has gum disease and a couple rotten teeth that need to be extracted they think. Only a $340 dental exam/cleaning etc will tell the total damage etc. Mayube after the holidays he will be back for that dentist visit. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB!!~

Hiya Grandpa Bob....yup here in the big apple all dogs have to have their shots and be licensed. For awhile there it was mandatory to have cats given rabies shots as well even strictly indoor cats, but they've slackened off on that rule

Our dogs have all their shots and tags and are either spayed or neutered, but they aren't licensed. I never really understood the point (other than that it's the law). It seems like if you have all the proper shots, that should be enough. It's $50 per dog, every other year, for us to keep them licensed and I just haven't brought myself to do it. Good luck in court. Hopefully you can get out of the fine, or at least get it reduced.

I do make sure I keep the dog license current, don't want to get a fine. haven't been up to date with shots and stuff, figure by now the pooch is fine. She is an old girl about 14 or 15. Buster looks very important, just like a "real" dog.

Never bothered with licensing my dog or shots either. Its just to expensive now a days to do all that. They are just a dog after all. I know some would say its family but my kids will always come before a dog.

It's a council regulation here to have your dogs registered and micro-chipped. Cats too in the cities I believe. I've always had my dogs registered and since it came in, also micro-chipped. I'm also a big believer in having pets de-sexed so they don't breed indiscriminately. Even my male goat is marked (de-sexed) and I wish I had his horns removed when he was a baby kid...he's too old now and his horns are too big.

Afraid I don't have a dog or cat anymore as I lost Shilo the beagle in parting ways with my ex-husband again (he bought Shilo for grandkids and I took care of him). He was liscenced but we got him from the local animal shelter and it was required on adoption. Prior to that over the years have had a couple different dogs but didn't liscense them lived outside the city and never had any problems. If it's like here it's not cheap though :(

He is adorable. Pets are so expensive now. They even have health insurance for your pets. I can't have pets where I'm at but back in the day, owning a dog or a cat was fairly inexpensive. Now they are every bit as expensive as a child. They really are. So you have a little rebel on your hands? Good luck with that Web. Just remember, tough love!

Bob, never heard of having to license a dog. But then, we live in a rural area. This is country, and people throw out dogs right below us and they come to our house! The two dogs that are here are cast offs! But they are good barking dogs, so Bill feeds them and they stay here and protect us and our property. They haven't had shots, either. If we got a dog of our own, we have always gotten the needed shots. But you just can't get shots for a cast off - there are just too many of them that come around.

A ticket for his howling? It's kind of hard to NOT let a dog howl or bark when he/she wants to. I mean there are those shock collars that shock a dog when it makes a loud sound, but I find them cruel. Wait, was your dog outside or inside? I keep mine inside. I guess if Buster was outside, he's probably going to be spending more time inside as well.

Not cheap having a dog, is it? lol But, Buster is now safe from most of the diseases that dogs can get. Since I live in the country, we don't need to get our dog licensed. He has a rabies tag but that's for the state, not city.

Guilty as charged! I moved back to Ohio 2 years ago and haven't gotten my dogs licensed yet. I know I should and I plan to, soon. I saw a possum a couple weeks ago (I live not far from the city center) and was reminded of the danger of rabies! Buster is just doing his job as he sees it! Beagles are like that. But I understand how your neighbors feel, I have a beagle I call Buddy across the alley that raises heck several times a day for no apparent reason. Another beagle recently moved in a couple house down so it's double the noise! I don't mind because I understand dogs and don't need to sleep in the daytime but I sympathize with people that it bothers. My God, it sounds like they're being killed!! Put a few pennies in a coffee can. When Buster barks, rattle it and say "NO!". Cookie was a barker and it took less than two hours with "THE CAN" to make her stop. All I have to do nowadays is ask her if she wants me to get THE CAN and she stops.

Hi GRANDPA BOB, That is just rediculous, we don't have to have license for dogs her in the UK, but I don't own a dog, but my friend got two great big Bearded collies. Tamara

Hey Grandpa Bob! What do you mean you have to go to court for a hearing? What are they going to do to Buster? Who called the police on him? They can't put that adorable dog in jail just for howling! Are you bringing him to court? If the judge saw those beautiful brown eyes the case would be dismissed in a minute! It definitely was good that you got the license and the shots to! Here in NY all animals have to have shots and licenses even cats do whether they go outside or not! I have been a bad mother and my kittys haven't gotten their shots either! But, they are supposed to have rabie shots even though they never go outside!

Our dog has regular visits to the vet. She has all of her shots and is up to date on everything. She is one of those strange dogs that loves going to the vet. She gets really excited as soon as she gets in the car and pulls and pulls until she is greeting the fellow employees.
