Have you ever had to be evacuated?

This summer my province has been experiencing a lot of really large wildfires, resulting in a lot of lost homes, and obviously evacuees.
In 1997, my family was having a reunion in the southern part of my province. We had family up from all over (as far away as Florida) and suddenly a forest fire broke out to the south of the city we were staying at.
Everyone had to evacuate, and we had to move our family reunion to another town a few hours away. Everyone had to share 2 hotel suites, and make the most out of cramped quarters.
It was a tremendously stressful experience, but one we will all remember for all time.
Have you ever been evacuated for anything? What was the reason? How long did you have to stay away?

That really is a terrifying experience. To go through something like that must be tough.
I've never been evacuated but more trap in experience. We encountered several flood cases here. My house wasn't really effected. But if flood happen, we'll be stranded, like on an island. When that happen, power and water supply will be cut off. It'll usually took at least three days for everything to return to normal and water level slowly become low.

This has happened to me, living along the Illinois River. For the few years that I lived in one house, we spent an average of 8 months of the year being able to access the property only by boat.. And this house WAS located actually in the town! Despite my house being elevated a great deal above ground level, in 1995, there was 14+ feet of water at the end of the driveway, and the water ended up being mere inches from peeking through the basement ceiling and into the floorboards of the upstairs. My dad chose to stick it out.. My mother and sister stayed in a motel in a different town, while I spent a month or two staying with a friend... Not just because of the structural dangers that flooding can cause, but because of how horribly my health was affected. The house literally became an island...
I could often go fishing right out of my bedroom window or front porch. After the flood of 95, the foundation of the house had shifted enough that we ended up selling the home and moving elsewhere.
