About 500 women have formed an association called All India Mothers-in-law Protection Forum to protest against their condition as Mothers-in-law, in Bengaluru, India. For generations Daughter-in-law and Mother-in-law clashes have been an issue of tensions in Indian families. Somehow Mothers-in-law are always portrayed as the vamps. Soap operas on local television are not helping. They have added scheming, cruel, sadistic and violent to the usual Bossy, Rank pulling and Dictatorial accusations. The interesting fact is these women are highly trained professionals, who we depend on for life and death decisions. To be fair to them there have there have been incidents where Daughters-in-law are the culprits. It is always the incidents of Daughters-in-law that have got publicity. What is worrisome is that the social fabric as we know it,is being torn to shreds in these clashes. If you think a new social order is needed, how should it be?
