I guess I've got brain freeze. I'm helping my 4th grader with her math when we get to the last one and ...and...well, I'm stuck. How embarrassing. Maybe you guys have a clearer head than I and can help. Here Goes:Cameron delivered newspapers to forty houses. The people on his route saved their newspapers for Cameron to turn in to the Recycling Center. The Recycling Center paid him seven cents per pound of paper. If the average newspaper weighed eleven ounces, how many newspapers will he have to take to the Recycling Center to make $35.00?

Okay, first of all, they tried to fool you and your student by putting in unnecessary facts. That fact is that Cameron delivered to forty houses. Mike was right on, I think, with his calculations, but I will do it here, as I am typing. First, divide $35.00 by $.07, you find that it takes 500 lbs. of paper to earn the $. Next, multiply 500 by 16 (ounces in a pound) That is 8000 ounces. Now, divide 8000 ounces by 11 ounces and you get 727 papers with a repeating .2727272,or a remainder of three, which means that to earn the full thirty five dollars, he would have to return 728 papers that weigh 11 ounces. Now, if the next question says that every house saves every paper every day, how many days to have enough papers, you have a few more steps, but I can do them.
