The aliens in the movie District 9 come as refugee on earth and then start causing nuisance. People on earth are frustrated and wants to get rid of them. When Cristopher (the alien) is trying to build a machine so that they can escape from earth, the humans are actually trying to stop him from leaving. I could not understand this part? Why were humans trying to stop Christopher from leaving earth for his land? Were humans afraid that if they left him escape he will return back with army of prawns to attack earth? If humans could have peacefully negotiated with the prawns, wouldn't humans be able to establish a good trading route? The movie could have ended on a note of peace. What are your thoughts?

The humans wanted to study the aliens and dissect them etc. That's what I think anyway.

The humans did not know they were trying to revive the space shuttle. They only knew about it when it started flying. The humans were trying to relocate the aliens because of the trouble they were causing. The aliens had super weapons of which the humans had no defence against. The leader of the aliens intended to get back to their home planet, and to get some help. The fact that he was helped by a human who was physiologically changing into an alien means any sequel is open to more possibilities.
